The GSM encryption algorithm was broken

29 December, 2009
Put your tinfoil hats on - GSM encryption has been broken. This means that Evil Doers can listen in on your calls and read your SMS messages. Law enforcement agencies already have that capability...

well, some people in Philippines were able to tap the conversation between the president and the election official in May 2004. that conversation almost toppled the corrupt president from her office. i bet the president used the GSM mobile phone to make sure no one can tap it...but she was wrong. anyone can hear that election cheating conversation between the president and the election official in youtube...just type 'hello garci' and you'll find a few in youtube.

Don't worry people. Even the US can't catch Osama till now and there's terrorists bomb blasts everyday and they all use mobile phones. If they can't stop these things yet no one's gonna tape or listen your trivial conversation over the phone. Relax.

lol. i was under the impression that it had been broken years ago. i know people were offering real-time eavesdropping devices and gsm-tracking boxes. i had even read that some malls were using such devices not to listen in on customers, but to watch how they moved around from store to store to see their patterns. in the end, i agree with gsmarena. probably not a single person on this forum that should worry about such a "threat." there are very few of us that even live remotely interesting lives worth eavesdropping on ;)

Jason, 29 Dec 2009How about data traffic? Passwords and stuff...Sure enforcement i law they do specially on this whom they assume, otherwise they have automated networks to check for specific data.
If you take example one antivirus PC app is programed to detect specific malware data ass is known virus.., and the same they have this apps to detect wot they are interested the most.
USA spends trillions in year to spy in and out the country, and the Europeans do that to the same, and most of this spying activities is useless, just wast of €€€€, if they use this money for other purposes people need, like for hunger people, homeless people, they would have solve the problem to most of the people.
Example in Luxembourg is a big network with most powerful computers in the world, that they are with one purpose to spy and anticrime, that this computers will recognize voice of the suspect even if he changes the phone and simmcard and if he uses any public phone, automatically will pop up it's identity the voice belongs to him.

There was a show on TV couple years a go, where German police was hunting after suspects drug dealers, and in suspects car where they were talking about the deal, the suspect say to hes dealer "switch off the phone, so no one hear us wot we are talking about" where the police already hear them with advanced walki-talkie, and they switch off, but police activated their phone again, though in their phone screen you see nothing happening..., it was funny how this drug-dealers talking and everything police was hearing them.
So guys the only way they can't hear you is, take battery pack out of your phone.

so slowly we need to find a plced to hide from this super exposed planet earth
