Samsung Galaxy Note5 battery life test

24 August, 2015
Samsung surely raised a few eyebrows by equipping the Galaxy Note5 with a smaller battery than its predecessor. The newcomer’s 3,000mAh unit is also non-removable, so we were quite curious to put it through the rigors of our battery test.

What is your favourite phone right now? I can go to xda and find someone complaining about that phones poor battery life.

I dont know why when it comes to Samsung articles, theres always that guy that mentions xda or go to youtube to find some random person complaining.

Don't understand how these tests are showing note 5 performing well on the battery test. Go over to xda forum and you can easily see users complaining about the standby time and battery life. So who is the honest one? And I wouldn't want to buy a phone just to disable everything so that I can prolong my battery life. Defeats the purpose.

I'm a Note5 and a Note4 user. This battery review happens to be true at least for me. My Note5 battery endurance managed to be on par with my 10 month old Note4.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2015I find this article to be completely biased. The Note 5 com... moreThe conspiracy is, these manufacturers need to have you charging more times to ruin the battery faster. They could easily give it a 4000mAh battery, and with the efficient processor, you'd actually have less cycles.

Remember, batteries have 300 to 500 cycles of charging. Factor that with the stress of more heat and fast charging, you will ruin it faster.

AnonD-374655, 24 Aug 2015Very Good results. Combined with Quick Charging 2 and Fast ... moreAnd the fastest to get that sealed battery ruined...

Just look at the huge 4 hours difference against the Note 4! Knowing this, why would anyone with a logical mind bother with a limited sealed battery Note.5? With the Note 4, toy can practically just change to a great battery.

The removable battery system is very practical and much more efficient.

            1. Better battery cycling and thereby longer life. If you cycle 3 batteries, they can be 3 times more effective in holding a charge than a single one over usage. Yes, they will slowly lose charge hold.

            2. Seconds to get a full charge back than wait hours to charge. It takes only just about a minute, from turning off, swapping, and full boot.

            3. No need to carry the charger or a heavier power bank. For those days you don't need to carry a bag, just your essentials, your phone and a thin extra battery - all in your pockets comfortably.

            4. You have a choice of a third party extended battery, even tripling the capacity. Yup, Mugen and Zerolemon offer this more effective secure long power needs that guarantee long power use 100% - every ounce of charge is used, unlike power banks.

            5. Safer to charge on a cradle than on the device. Forget wireless charging too, as it often contribute heat while while those inductive coils are working. Heat is the number one enemy of current battery technology. Fast charging will also contribute to a shorter cycle life.

            6. Reduces the chances of theft while charging outside the house. Even with fast charging, you need some 1 hour to charge - you still have to wait and leave it. Yeah there are power banks, but you usually would leave the device alone.

            7. An extra battery is smaller and thinner to carry inside your pocket. Yes, it's 5mm thick, compared to some 20 to 25mm thick power banks - thin power banks would be pointless if you'll just get to effectively charge your battery by only half.

            8. When your battery finally gives up, you just buy a new one. Yes, folks - you get 100% efficiency with about $20. You can delay

            9. No need to pay for more expensive internal battery and wait for days to have it installed.

            10. Your device becomes practically wireless without the need to plug in via the micro USB most of the time if you just charge the spent battery via the battery cradle.

A sealed battery gives the advantages of a smaller and thinner body, less expensive to make without the extra housing, and lighter. But it has less practicality to me.

Very Good results. Combined with Quick Charging 2 and Fast Wireless Charging and you have unprecedented power. Dont forget, Note 5 and S6 Edge+ are the Only devices on the market with Fast Wireless Charging too. It's the future.

The Note 5 continues to disappoint. The battery is smaller and inferior to that of the Note 4 and also nonremovable.

I find this article to be completely biased. The Note 5 comes with 'only' 5 hours less battery life than the Note 4? The Note 5 battery is pretty impressive considering that it has lesser capacity compared to the predecessor? How did GSM Arena get the authority to accomodate these 2 facts as acceptable/reasonable and pass judgments saying that - inspite of these 'acceptable/reasonable' facts - the battery life is great? Don't you think that battery life is something that should also improve (in absolute terms) with every successful iteration of a flagship phone, especially when the battery is non-replaceable now?

AnonD-263433, 24 Aug 2015question: How do gamers manage to swap battery on phones... moreEasy. When their daddy comes along, and gives them a good hiding, for being on the phone, for 4 or 5 hours non stop, and wasting their lives, and makes them put it down. To which they sneakily put it on quick charge, whilst pretending to do something useful, like , going to the toilet, or , eating, or, maintaining a ,real, live , relationship ,for an hour or so.

When you are spending $600 on a device and performance is laggy, it's unacceptable. Samsung is also pushing ads which is completely insane.

It's problem with their poorly coded skin and poorly developed apps/software.

Moto E performed faster than a Galaxy S5 in a video I watched last year. That's pretty laughable.

Galaxy S5 is faster than Note III. I wonder how worse Note III would perform in front of Moto E if S5 itself performed badly.
