Ahhh.... I remember the days of symbian, with much better multitasking and less than a quarter of the ram of current flagships.
Symbian did multitasking right.

Understand and take a look about the definition of Smart Phone. the comments were about 'what is a phone' and specific comments around the areas raised as concern points. The main point being that (if you can read between the lines) Technology evolves, and as such it can seem like things become missing or removed, but services improve over time to combat these losses. We are at a point whereby an industry is struggling to innovate the device and so the companies are trying to innovate the services and the customer journeys (or habit if you will) and hence not long from now, you will be able to charge your device wirelessly everywhere. Ikea have deals to integrate wireless charging to Furniture, Restaurants (some boig brands) have the same deals in place, Jaguar, BMW, Mercedes and others have deals to have Wireless charging in cars, so it really is becoming less of a requirement to have a removeable battery. Not to mention Smart bags and Smart luggage. Take a look!!
Same with the SD card, there is research that shows how content is managed by the majority and usually it sits on a device or the memory card and it very rarely gets transfered. Now with LTE, Cat 6 and Cat9 just about here and an abundance of bundled WiFi partners, Cloud sharing is easier. The only hurdle, previously was speed, cost and reliability. With a cloud you can access everywhere and do not need to bother messing around with memory cards or any other peripheral.
Clearly the companies like Apple and Samsung know what they are doing and this is why they lead the industry. Unfortunately there are people that do not fully understand the direction the industry is going and what the services are to combat it.
So....to say because a phone does not have a memory card or removeable battery constitutes it as a terrible phone is a completely bad comment and one with no factual basis or sense. For if it did, the entire Apple consumer base and a fairly large part of the Android consumer base are wrong. Now the fact that Apple and Samsung have sold millions of devices, Apple entirely with no SD card or removeable battery suggests that the lack of battery and the lack of SD card is not such a problem.
Can you understand that?
It was actually a constructive post with more depth that what appears to be in the majority of your posts on here where you appear to have an agenda against Samsung pretty much all of the time.

Besides that point, a Battery and a SD card are not the fundemental proporties of a Smart Phone (and certainly not a prerequisite), so perhaps, you should consider what a Smart Phone actually is yourself before drawing unecessary reference.
Now, I am more than happy to discuss what constitutes a Smart Phone. that would be a good discussion.

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2015All the benefits are not enough to counter all the huge dis... moreSo, first, the purpose of a Phone....primarily is to make a phone call. A removable battery, SD slot and 128GB option has absolutely no bearing on whether or not a phone makes a good call or not.
Removable battery can be a problem for some people, but not for everyone. the world is moving in to complete wireless world whereby wireless charging will be closer to you that you thinks, so maybe a problem for some people today, but actually, only a few on grander scale.
No SD card slot...not bothered really. I think the 100Gb cloud you get for free, with the amount of wireless connections available, makes it really simple to mange stuff to a cloud and manage content better on your device. Besides this, if a cloud is not your thing, then use a usb stick and transfer that way.
128GB option....that was already announced that there would be this version.
Bloatware....simply remove it if you don't like it....many devices have such content and is used to differentiate...not for everyone, I grant that.
Bugs....find a device that does not have a bug? People talk about Zen Phones and 1Plus's but for sure they do not have the same level of resource as a Samsung, or an Apple or an LG.
Fragile....Mobile have been fashion accessories first for a long time. Nice shiny glass and metal bodies are not so new. So devices have changed and they look pretty great compared to a few years ago. What has not changed are clumsy people dropping a throwing round what they have in their hand. The value of a mobile is not truly understood for verious reason. Maybe people should handle things better and not expect Manufacturers to invent a glass that can be dropped and not break.
It is such a competitive industry, but do not for 1 second think that the Tier 2 and Tier 3 ODMs can do anything close to the entire operations of the Tier 1's. They do not have the resource, the experience, the expertise to run and manage such an operation.
I am quite sick of reading on GSM the comments from users, mainly because it seems no longer healthy discussion about innovations, but rather, x copied y and y copied z. We are in a world of massively evolved technologies, it simply is not possible to be original all of the time. People are trying to innovate the services and the design. For everything people are complaining about there are solutions and the infrastructures are now catching up to make the solutions (such as Qi and Clouds) easier, quicker and more reliable.
It a few years, no body will use SD cards, no body will have removable batteries, the materials will be more premium and everyone will forget that the Tier 1's of today innovated this complete trend.
Finally, please think before making such a pointless and inadequate comments with no real depth or foresight.

I think the user should be given this choice completely. I really liked the Symbian approach to this.
You want it to stay? Minimise and it will stay for days together in the same state.
You want it to finish? Exit it.
What's more amazing was, Symbian did all this in a fraction of the hardware we have today.
In my humble opinion, Samsung (or better yet, GOOGLE) should go for middle touch to minimise and right touch to exit the application completely. That would be cool.
Then, the Android smartphone would behave more like a PC's proper OS.

I'm not saying this is not a real issue, but I would not take that video as any evidence.
There could be some kind of optimizing going on.
Some apps might initiate this behaviour.
And in this case, there is a very little chance that a user would skip back and forth betweeen this many apps. So why would all of them be kept frozen in the background?
Like I said, I'm not saying this issue isn't real. But I would need much better evidence.
Besides, the guy making this video didn't say that the devices had been restarted, to make sure there was no additonal software running in the background.
And he never assured us that no additional apps had been installed.
I have installed apps on my phones, that run constantly in the background.
And even if I close all apps in the task switcher, that does not mean that every process is killed off, if I check running apps. If an app has been started, it might still be doing things in the background, even if you closed it in the task switcher.
Again I'm not saying the issue isn't real.
But from what I have seen, in videos, it could be something the videomaker has done intentionaly.
If the issue is real. I hope we get an explanation for it. Is it a bug? It it done intentionaly by samsung? if so, then what is the reason? And are they just trying it, to see if it's beneficial for the average user?

Samsung's phones have problem with the so called 'hot start'. It's when the app is already loaded in the memory. The apps showed in the video are not deleted from the RAM memory and loaded from the scratch. They are not forced closed and loaded again. There are bunch of similar videos out of there (some of them pretty old). It's not something new, which should be in the news, but thanks again for reminding us that Sammy's Touch Wiz sucks. However the people, who throw bunch of money for their latest phones don't care at all

In trying to overtake apple, Samsung instead got it all wrong, l would never waste my money on all this new brands again, am going to have to keep my note 4 for a while until l see some changes

GSM Arena why didnt you ever speak about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Screen Brightness issue which the phone faced in dark room area.
You can google that.
That was never reported here.
However it has been partly fixed by software update. But that should have been mentioned here as many people have that issue.
