Samsung Galaxy Note5 and S6 edge+ found to aggressively close tasks in the background

24 August, 2015
This behavior is similar to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge even though the Note 5 and edge+ have 4GB RAM.

AnonD-90109, 24 Aug 2015This issue is present in all Samsung devices.issue seems to be present in all Android devices in general. The operating system is still glitchy not to mention companies like LG and Samsung tend to want to add their own garbage (bloatware) on top of the already glitched android operating system.

paul newmann, 24 Aug 2015yeah, iPhones never had a lot more good things than Android... moreThe only thing android has on iOS is the ability to change your home screen. Other then that, I don't see the benefits of android with exception in buying a "cheaper" phone, and when it comes to android, you get what you pay for. Trouble 100% of the time with slowness and sluggishness, waiting for an update is a pain.

I'm happy with an iPhone. I don't have any issues and the stuff it cannot do that android can, anyone can live without.

If this is not a problem , then i think you are just got woke up after a very long hibernation ;-)

And this issue was there with S6 as well as in S6 edge , then fixed it.
Here problem is not the apps ability to hold the data in the background, but
samsungs ability to relaunch the app freshly everytime when an app is launched.

There is a possibility that TouchWiz launcher is buggy.
Whenever user launches the app , it might just loads the app freshly.
And i have a paid Launcher app in Play Store ;-)

Apps like KIK, Safari Browser (and tabs) tend to have to reload once brought back in. However have noticed that apps like the Maps app and the "Bank" apps are pretty good on holding on in the background. I have the iPhone 5S and Samsung GS6. They do a good job

Anonymous, 24 Aug 2015no, iphone could retain apps, check the settings and go to ... moreiPhone retains the apps but even on Background refresh, KIK for one, also the browser app, it tends to reload the browser at times and also reloads the tabs if you have several open. It really is not a big deal to me specially since the iPhone 5S is a pretty powerful phone. Once it reloads it does it fast. No issue or big deal with me.

Hmmm ... smells like a workaround for applications and an operating system with memory leaks. My guess is that the earlier 5.0.x was fixed by slapping idle applications .... I wish either google would merge chromeOS and android and give us an operating system with real virtual memory ... or just port virtual memory onto android ... pick your poison guys and move into the 1980's .... or 1990's ....

I guess i'm the only one not too bothered by this cos i always hit the BACK button to close the app instead of storing it in memory with the HOME button. BUT it will be a problem if i have to do that every now and then for app i need to temporarily store in the background. Maybe Samsung ought to tone down TW even more cos pure Android experience on older Nexus devices is still smoother compare to it.

4gb of ddr4 ram on a phone is already overkill, samsung should revise their code on ram management... Why pay so much for that amount of ram when you are in reality just using 1gb of it as your own... Are those apps windows pc-like intensive? No... Does touchwiz lag down the whole phone? Yes.... No wonder i sold both my s6 and s6+....
