Im in INDIA. I updated on 16-01-10 morning to v40. Lots of canges specially Home screen and Kinetic Scrool. Thanks to NOKIA.

be careful updating your n900. many encountered problems after the 2nd firmware update. Some stalled during the update process and needed to be reflashed. Some have other software issues. make sure battery is full when doing the update. Source maemo.org forum talk.

I just updated my 5800XM and noticed that i have problems with video clips playback (all clips transferred to the phone with Nokia PC Suite - so they are optimized for 5800XM). The playback is good for a few seconds and than the picture freezes while sound still goes on. Fast forwarding is in my case now mission impossible due to same freezing problem. Also, as i have video ringtone, since I updated the device my video ringtone is discontinued and video also freezes. I am sure that it is connected with that 2 new sliders (unlock, answer) which are by my opinion totally unnecessary complications of one simple and functional answering method (i wish i could turn off this sliders). :-) Regards!

I've installed the update onto my Nokia 5800 and it works fine. The kinetic scrolling is very fast and responsive, and I'm glad to see the change in home screen which now can accomodate more info right on the spot. I've read some rumours that ovi updater doesn't work on Windows 7, thus show no update avail. for the phone. It can also be the case with simlocked phones with tricked software by mobile operators. I use this phone as a back up phone (Android HTC Hero being primary) but at this moment the 5800XM became the phone it should have been in the beginning, being dirt cheap compared with competition.

I tried all day by all method by no luck it not showing any update even if I check the nokia uk website it tells me that latest version for nokia 5800 is 31XXXx which is already installed in my phone

vishnu, 15 Jan 2010i went to nokia care kerala(india).there is no new update a... moreI have updated to the new V40 firmware for the 5800xm and its better than i could have imagine its like a new phone all the stuff i wanted is now in the phone this is the change log i got from a site a i can confirm it is true we have all the stuff on this change log and a few more
* Kinectic Scrolling everywhere except: main menu, application menu, browser
* Homescreen similar to that of 5530 with 20 contacts.
* Removed the alphanumeric keypad in landscape version, now when we turned the phone alphanumeric portrait changes to full QWERTY
* New screen alarm, but only when the screen is locked
* Ovi Contacts installed
* Improved application “Updating Applications”, which also renames Upgrade SW;
* The application “Data transfer” was also implemented in “Settings”
* Real Player Updated to 12 October 2009
* Touch more responsive
* Improved stability
* NOT HACKABLE!!

people india the upadet is available. earleir i had same problem, as i checked with phone, it was showing me no updates available.
but as i connected my phone to pc suite by cable and updated mu nokia updater, it updated my phone.
now i am having V40.0 .. enjoy...

I tried to update but it says newest version is v31! I need the v40 UK version!
I think it's because my phone is from T-mobile and so T-mobile customised the firmware. So now I have to wait untill T-mob customise the newest v40 version.
Can someone describe how much more responsive the screen is? OK so it won't be iPhone like but how much better has it become from v31 firmware? thx

I tried Installing This software in my new nokia 5800 xpress music by using nokia software updater.. bt after download completion I got error message stating Software Update cannot continue..this version of O/S does not support the update..

However... moreI get a 3.5G connection on my E75 through AT&T, it reads as 3.5G every time I run it for GPS, net browsing, or the Internet radio now granted I live in Dallas, so a big place where AT&T rolls out the good stuff first, either way though I get it and im not complaining

But when i tried to update my phone' software i was very much disappointed to see that no update is available so i think so its just a rumor....... cause they wanna feel "hip" and "instyle" so they waste money on their products not knowing what's the tom in the future
and they end up trying to put people down that don't have any apple products cause they are deemed "rich" if they own an apple product but in retrospect they are actually cheap cause they can't pay for the phone full price and buy it on a 2-3 year term thinking that's the actual price of the phone XD
