i live in NZ and we sell the iphone 16GB 3GS on a $40 a month plan for $699 and the plan only gives you 20 mins and 100 txts and 250MB of data. stop bitching about how expensive it is in the uk because we have it worse.

the device is irrelevant if voda can't stock it though...just one point get the iphone 3G and not the 3GS. The 3GS lasted about five hours for me with light use on vodafone greece network. I never brought the phone back to UK to test. The 3G lasts longer and is relatively nippy. Yes, the 3GS is very quick, but as soon as you use it for *ANYTHING* it will die as fast if not faster than an HD2 or any other high powered smartphone.

GAZ, 14 Jan 2010only problem with this now is vodafone are known for managi... moreStrange the same thing happens to "Smartone Vodafone" (SMV) in HK...as when Moto Milestone was released on Dec 21, SMV customers were told they should get their (SMV modified...which initially created SMS problems) Milestone in 2 weeks.
Around Dec 31 all other shops and network service providers received their big batch of Milestones...except SMV customers still couldn't get their handsets...some until now.
Back to iphone, I really admire how "powerful" this phone is, especially in UK they're still selling iphone 3G (without the S!), which I thought was out of production already.
Of course there are phones like Moto V9 which have been around for 2 years. Yet Apple seems to be very successful with its 2~3 models lineup, especially as a newcomer in the mobile phone market.
Apple's successful strategy proved a phone maker doesn't have to punch out a dozen (so called different!) models every MONTH and try to dominate the market.

B#tch and moan all you want as the iPhone is here to stay.
One good thing is that all the other phone makers are now trying to knock off the iPhone.
Sure the iPhone isn't that a phone but the iPod portion of it is still very good as a media player!! Can't beat the iPod or iTunes for a very friendly UI and media software.
Others have tried to replicate the "ease of use" UI of the iPod/iPhone and almost all came up short!
NO media software is as simple to use like iTunes. There's NOTHING wrong with iTunes as a music ripper if you rip music CD into 320k mp3 format (most people except audiophiles can't tell the difference between a FLAC file and a good 320k mp3 file anyway)!!
Let's hope that the iPhone continues to innovate and make other phone makers WAKE up to make simple to use phones albeit at Much lower prices for the general public.
I own an SE w995 but no way would I spend money on an iPhone considering I already have an iTouch!
Hoping that the SE X10 performs well but can't really imagine myself buying it since it'll cost MORE than the iPhone when released and probably be "outdated" anyway! Darn SE for their usual lateness on releasing phones still at premium prices!!

Anonymous, 14 Jan 2010Your comment may have been relevant in 2007 but history has... moreNah Iphone has had its glory now for a MAJOR player to take over and show us some interesting technology and the major players are just doing that. The Iphone is just a marketing success deep down its old technology and clever branding. Wont be long til we see Nokia, Samsung, SE & LG take up lead again :-D

its a good phone but nothing to get into a frenzy about, there are many better smart phones out there which are better 'phones' infact. Sure the iphone has got ifart and hundreds of such apps but most manufacturers and os and hundreds now too, from android apps,lg app store.ovi store etc. The iphone does indeed look well, have a excellent touchscreen response and other features but theres better phones in every category out there form far superior screen picture quality, software, hardware perspectives. Apples major achievement is not producing the best phone on the market but managing to sell a fairly decent one with precise marketing and pr,an fair play to them for that i guess.

None of the competitors has an answer to the iPhone's success.
That's just a fact of life, get over it.

You could get 2 phones with contracts with about 800 minutes and unlimited texts for that amount. Think about it an HTC HD2 and a Motorola Milestone, but of which are way better than the iPhone. Anyone that gets it needs their head examined IMO.

agreed, vodafone stocking of handsets is poor. For such a wonder phone I'm surprised it is only getting 3.7 stars out of 5....pricey plans too.
T-mobile and vodafone are the best for data though...well, that is until people start USING their iphones or data enabled devices lol.
I personally think that stock will be Vodafone's number one issue. They have had issues with other handsets in the past, and most recently the HD2. I would not be surprised if some pre-order customers find they receive an alternative phone instead to remove themselves from the pre-order queue once they are forced to return the incorrect unit. Vodafone did that to me with a blackberry device upgrade and an HD2 upgrade - sent me the wrong handset 18months apart and couldnt get me the desired one in the end. lol.

The price is a joke. I was thinking about upgrading but I would rather have an x10 because at least you expand the memory and have an excellent cam and android is great. I do like the iphone but the prices all the networks and apple ask are stupid

Craig, 14 Jan 2010Wow voda have promissed to deliver but there are no iphones... moreWell, here in Oxford (UK), Vodafone had enough stock in the store and I ordered my 32G 3GS today (Thurs) over the phone to take advantage of a phone only deal, and it's due for delivery tomorrow. They seem to have their act together.

Why shell out that amount of money on an iphone and stuck in a contract when you could just get a cool Sammy or Sony Ericsson on pay as you go and they have been kicking around for a while since the mighty iphone only hit the uk!!
