Sony changes its waterproof policy, says not to fully submerge phones

Sony is correct in doing this. People do dumb stuff and then blame the manufacturer.

Ahhh sony sony sony, Why did you had to change that!! just simply put that water indicator like the one i have in my Z Ultra by the flap opening and that should solve the whole problem.
My phone got replaced twice, original one had some screen issues, the first replacement was defective and water leaked in, indicator was still white. They sent me the second replacement without any delay.
Hope Sony reconsider and change it back.

I once had my Z1 Compact fully submerged in water for around 40 minutes. And since I'm currently using it to write this comment, you should understand how it turned out.

my xperia z2 suffered from water ingress.
Sony UK was really professional and sent me a brand new device. I was a bit disappointed that my waterproof phone got damaged after taking photos under water, but I got a new phone after all.

People who are accusing Sony of lying need to get real. The phones ARE IP68 certified. This is not something you can just slap on the box, there is a certification process the devices must go through. Meaning, if you submerge your Xperia device WITH THE FLAPS TIGHTLY CLOSED there will be absolutely no problem. They're certified. The reason for this change is to try to keep idiots from doing stupid things and breaking their phones. It doesn't reduce the capabilities of the phones, it's just so Sony can say "Hey, we told you not to submerge it, so we're not required under the warranty to fix it."

I have an Xperia Z1 compact (with IP58) and I have used it underwater many times before without any issues.
But i saw many people complaining about their phones not working after submerging them, maybe they didn't firmly close all flaps or they've used it for a long periods of time underwater.
So if you just take good care of your phone underwater, you're good.

1. Yes it sound a bit stupid
2. It doesnt change IP rating, its just guarantee term that was putted there, because stupid people go to salty water without flaps plugged in.
3. Your phone is still waterproof and current one still are, you just dont have reason to go to repair show and wining that your phone doesnt work because you didnt plug cover flaps.

It works well if the caps are tightened properly. We often tend to forget to place them properly in the excitement and take loose caps in water resulting in disasters.
As per my opinion, they are right at their place and atleast they are honest about what they sell. They might not be walking with the latest technology but they do make useful and quality products.

So basically they are LYING. They say their devices are IP68 and yet they say they can't survive in these conditions (And they aren't lying about the latter since not one or two people have damaged their phones this way). Pure scam.
