Don't comment if you don't know the facts.
Before you even think about arguing I work in the phone industry and the sony rep had the device which you dont as it is only on pre order at the moment.

Its waterproof but not waterproof. z3 could be immersed in water without flaps, z5 has flaps now. z5 is thicker than older devices?

My 1 year old z2 is totally waterproof and I won't stop using it underwater because it works great every time,
no issues with sounds or camera or functionality.
I'm even thinking to try how would it be to listen to music underwater I might give it a try because I tried taking pic and its awesome and recording videos I like that the phone never heats up underwater with 4k vid lol

I did submerge my Z1 with all caps closed. Sony refused to cover the damage within warranty. Lost my money and had a bad time with them.

With today fireproof,shatterproof,bulletproof....testing, in some of test sony ends in victory, so yes, its durable in ideal conditions.

Mostly People misuse their phone. It's good decision. I have xperia z and their is no problem using my in rain and after a week I wash my phone. I love my xperia z

Used my xperia z3 compact under pool water to take pictures and it still works perfectly after that. The previous advertisement was correct. Anyway, this is a right move from Sony. The device is waterproof, but now it's only up to you to risk testing it and face the consequences. The fact that the device is waterproof doesn't mean you can be careless about it, you should check the flaps, maybe even download the barometer app, press your finger on the screen and see if the pressure rises

I still consider buying Sony flagship. Water resistance is better there than anyone else.

Though this decision/statement naturally will bring negative reactions more then positive. But I think Sony has NO WAY because I have seen some people enjoy their phones for long time and then they willingly damge the phone a few months before the warranty is over. And then they take their water damaged phones to service center and get an absolutely new one as Sony was bound to do that. This is how some people renewed their phones. For these types of people, Sony had to change their policy and ultimately the honest people who will damage their their phones accidentally or for manufacturing defects will be hampered greatly.

Common thing. The problem is the rubber seal detaching from the location they're supposed to seal, not people not closing the plastic flap itself.
