Sony should stop waterproofing their devices to get rid of those dreaded flops that will wear out in no time.

I've been waiting for a long time for sony to stop the waterproof feature coz it was ruining their reputation. Many people abuse the waterproof feature because they're so intrigued by it. This is the best sony can do and I'm supporting them :). Still gonna get the Z5

This is so ironic, considering the social media campaigns for early Z phones were all about taking a selfie underwater and posting it to a hashtag. Like "look what our phone can do!"
And now they're all "look what our phone can do but under your own risk".
Guess nothing will beat a good ol' $7 waterproof, clear transparent bag for a long time...

Lol this is sony's polite way of saying "ok, since you morons dont get that in order to submerge your phones the flaps need to be PROPERLY CLOSED, not just pressed lightly, we're now telling you that you should not do that. Also, we're covering our asses just in case"
When i get my z3 compact in a couple months i'm simply going to test the barometer every time i might end up submerging it. Too many people with mint brains... Jeez

if xperias are not to fully submerge so I prefer an #iPhone6s or #SamsungGalaxy

Sony support is horrible. When I broke the screen on my z2 they wanted to charge me over $300 to fix it when the price of a new z2 was around $400. I like their phone but would never buy another one unless it came with complete 3rd party gaurantee against damage.

Seems to me that the water rating for Sony phones just means that you have to be less careful with them than you do with other phones, not that they are ready to join you at the bottom of the pool or the shower (where water gets forced in by pounding drops). Common sense people. Water and electronics aren't best friends.

So, Sony have been selling very well and that's ALL down to the waterproof phone! Well, now that say that you shouldn't submerge the phone then what's the point in buying Sony huh!!!??? You can't beat an iPhone, You can't beat Samsung, the speakers on Z1 is poor and sounds tinny.....nevermind the after sales care!

My 2013 xperia z is still functioning well even if i always taking photos and movie clips underwater but making it sure that all the flaps are closed.

This waterproofing is a gimmick, I took mine in the shower, and after coming out the shower the phone stopped working, found water inside the sim compartment and in the rear lens. its been a week now and its still not working. Please don't risk it, it's not worth it.

i have submerged my z quite a lot of times, although the indicator under the headphone flap has turned pink somehow even though i tightly close the flaps before submersion. anyway, a waterproof phone, not covered by warranty is practically a non - waterproof phone.

So waterproof for Sony product is just a marketing gimmick lol. Thank god I read this post today as I am preparing to buy a xperia Z5. If submerging is not allowed then Sony should drop their IP 68 certifications from their marketing initiatives. See their policy, it says the phones were "gently tested in lab condition, gently submerge and gently taken out". Are you kidding Sony, Do you expect customers who pays lot of money for your product to use it in a lab or to keep babying their Sony phones to prevent warranty void. Waterproof certified smartphones are meant for people with active lifestyle and what's the use of having a Sony waterproof phone that denies that kind of lifestyle to people buying it. Its better for me to buy some other smart phones that does not pretend to be waterproof.

I wish I could have read this before submerging my Z1 Compact wich got water damaged (Yes I did have all caps closed).Shame on them! They will never have my money ever again! And it's amazingly awful that their latest flagship (the Z5) has the same dark screen problem that my Z1 Compact had (from what I've seen from reviews).Also has the same design wich is getting boring and outdated quickly.Samsung blows them out of the water.
