Editorial: Samsung, sort out the GPS and Bluetooth on the Galaxy lineup

Ok, for an update on a t-mobile Note 4. I have a T-Mobile Note 4 running 5.1.1. I've tried many methods to fix this GPS lock issue.
- From deleting cache and data for the maps app
- Taking off the phone cover and even took off all the screws and released the upper left hook shape plastic piece in the area of where the GPS hardware would be located and when removed you'll see two bronze colored prongs that I decided to curve/bend upwards in case the contact it was needing to make on that plastic piece wasn't the best. Then screwed in all screws tightly again.
- Going into the boot menu and wiping cache that way.
- Installing a couple of GPS fix apps from the playstore.
- Pushing, bending, squeezing all sides and internals pieces.
- Removing the micro sd card, I didn't bother with the sim card, and putting it back in.
- Thee ONLY method that worked for me was to install an app from the playstore called "TopNTP 1.1". I've read posts where they say the phone needs to be rooted. Well, my phone is NOT rooted and once installed and you configure the setup like I will mention, you click install, I then just wanted to reboot after the install of the config file, I had GPS lock in a matter of seconds. So the configuration I used once the app was installed: I'll list the setup that will represent the letter "Z", when making these configuration changes to have installed. "North America", "United States", "Generic", "Tmobile". Then clicked on "Install" from the bottom of the screen. And after that is when I rebooted just for my own personal preference.
There are a couple of other methods I have not tried but the last method, worked like a charm and like I stated, my phone is not rooted and my GPS had not worked prior to the install of the configuration change that is made from that "TopNTP 1.1" app from the playstore.
Good luck to all and hope that method will work for others like it has for my phone.

I have had a galaxy phone for 5 years and I hadn't had any such GPS issues. Kinda sounds odd and coincidental. I have however experience slow Bluetooth.

Mir, 26 Oct 2015true ... correct.I work for a company that does a lot of iOP testing with BT devices and the most common CSR BT chipsets and the worst compatibility issues we had were with iOS, however recently all brands have got much better, but there was one older release of iOS that screwed BT audio where connection would consistently drop, it was so bad we almost had to do a recall as we though no way can we ship this, but in the end after determining that everyone was having the same issues we shipped because it was obviously apple problem. It was funny though because to those in the industry it was major issue but it was hard to find any info on apple forum as it would get deleted if the thread reached a certain level of popularity

ive used almost exclusively samsung devices , and have never had any of these issues. cant help but notice your primary is an apple, yet your complaining about gps for mapping? wonder what mapping app your using with those iphones? makes a person wonder if the writer of this article has ever owned anything other then apple?

This article should not be allowed, it is just a Samsung bash. I've have numerous Android phones including the Samsung S3, S4 and Note 4 and never had any of these issues. Not only that, I know many other Android users who have also had various handsets including those by Samsung and not had these issues. This is just a very bashy article that doesn't exactly give GSMA a good name.

How can be Iphone with it`s limited bluetooth better? Anyway,there is an app in Play Store-Bluetooth file transfer and will add some more functionality (more bt profiles) to bluetooth

maqsood, 26 Oct 2015After reading the blog from the editor I felt the need to a... morenow i am a long term samsung user and currently use i9500 and sm n910f with my 2010 model car and ever since the initial pairing i dont get any of those hit and miss issues with the Bluetooth hands free function and for navigation i suggest using nokias here app it will save u alot of pain and agony because google maps was a serious pain in my unkle side for a long time and yep "HERE" is the best thing since sliced bread in my case

Had S1,S2,S3,S4 Note1,2,3,4 in past years and now s6 edge Plus 64Gb never ever faced an issue like this .

I've had Sony Z Ultra, Samsung Tab S 8.4, Tab A, S3, Note 4, S6, A3, A8, BB Passport, and iPhone 4, Nexus 7. A Pebble Steel, original Pebble, Pebble Time Steel, Jabra Storm. Non of which gave me any bluetooth issue. Funny. Might be the google account you signed your devices in. Maybe your computer's google account is signed into a network that route itselfs all over the world to make it untraceable. Google probably got its location data from the it. Try signing out your computer's google account and see if you gotten correct location information. I reckon you have some severe spy works going on, on your computer. :)

Had the Galaxy S2, S3, S4, S4 mini, Note, Note 2, Note 3, Note 3 Neo, Mega 6.3, A8, J7.. Never had any of the problems mentioned in the article. The Samsung supplier in your area probably messed up their stocks

Wow, I always thought my phone was having this problem. Once my S6 edge told me I was in China . Same the next day.Used Iphone 6, nexus 5 but never had any problem with GPS.
Once I got the galaxy, it was so bad that I got separate GPS.

ive used Galaxy S2, S4 and now S6 Edge..even ive problem with my S2 and S4 (wifi problem) im still looking for a Samsung..dont know why..maybe i should consider to try an Apple after this..but hope the wifi problem is not happen to my S6 Edge..

my opinion to you is to setup the phone go in to the settings and make the changes the manufacture cannot do everything for you.... yes i agree it should not read that you are in a location yoour not but at the same thats why the setting is there for you to adjust these things that you are complaining about... i have had a samsung galaxy phone for almost two years and when you first enter an app that has to do with location it shows the incorrect place but after i set it up for my location and put it to remember that location it doesn't forget it so.. i guess who's having the issue is because your too lazy to change the settings or expect that the phone should automatically read your mind

After reading the blog from the editor I felt the need to add my comments with everyone else. There are a few points to mention here first. I connect my phone via bluetooth to my car's bluetooth system and i've used android phones (samsung, note 2 and sony xperia z2) as well as windows phones (nokia 1520 and 1020) and finally i'm currently using a blackberry classic (I used the passport before this). Im my experience connecting to my car's bluetooth was a hit and miss affair with samsung, sony xperia and the nokia phones. I originally put this down to my car being made in 2006 and therefore the bluetooth must have been somewhat dated and hence the hit and miss connection with the bluetooth. However earlier this year I changed to the blackberry passport and it had never failed to connect to the car, ever! Since then i've changed to the classic and it too never fails to connect. My conclusion is that its more to do with the phone and not your bluetooth device. Blackberry must be doing something right in the bluetooth dept. Just to add to this my business partner had a samsung note 4 and he had hit and miss connections with his in car bluetooth in his 2012 skoda yeti. He got so fed up with the problem he changed over to the z5 and so far hasn't had an issue! You can make your own conclusions from this.
