Editorial: Samsung, sort out the GPS and Bluetooth on the Galaxy lineup

25 October, 2015
I am an avid phone user, but I don't need that much from a device. That's the reason why throughout the last couple of years I am mostly using a current-gen iPhone as my primary device. But I always try to stay in the Android and Windows loop, so I often experiment with my secondary smartphone.

I live in india and have used galaxy s4 and galaxy s6 edge but i never had problem with gps. I think it is fairly accurate and the weather widget is also quite good since it figures for itself even in remote villages. The only error i faced was with galaxy s4 where it would display temperature in F instead of C. For bluetooth, i havent used much, so i cant say. But file transfer works without problem.

I have a note 3 and having the same problem. I am an android user and I totally agree on what you say. I have difficulties connecting the car with bluetooth and I have a new luxury car. I usually think that the car bluetooth is built for an OS phone. On the other hand I use an S6 edge, still the same problem.

I have used Galaxy S2,S3,S5 and now S6 Edge. Never faced this issue. In fact weather widget works more accurately than weather app on iPhone 6 of my friend. Galaxy has always been our favoured device for weather informations,GPS navigation whenever we go on trips. And I daily use Google Now cards which present cards very accurate as per my current location. No issues with Bluetooth either on any Galaxy I owned.

Well, atleast in India GPS works perfect on Galaxies.

Guess u have been always unlucky to get a faulty handset.

I used Note 1 and galaxy s4, and now using Note 4, bluetooth connection with my car works seamlessly, and also bluetooth connection with my bluetooth sports headphones works great, and the GPS works flawlessly. I've been comfortable with samsung for a few years.

Shouldn't everybody first download a GPS resetting app to be able to use GPS properly? In an orientation I attended, they distributed an app which is used to calibrate GPS data. They said this was necessary because GPS data (satellite locations, etc) get cluttered as time goes on, thus making the respond very very slowly and inaccurately. And if you use locations based on mobile data wouldn't the issue arise if you are connected via VPN or the ISP for that matter? I'm using a low-mid range Samsung Phone for 1 year now (Grand Prime) and I have been able to use GPS quite effectively. The only thing is I don't rely on apps like Google Maps for my location because these apps need internet connection to function, something which is very expensive in our country.

Bluetooth on the other hand is working properly but only for file transfers. I don't own a car to test that feature. Sorry.

I have had the galaxy S2, the Note followed by the S3; all worked perfectly well!!

I have a Galaxy Note 3 for almost 2 years and I encountered the issue with GPS several times. Usually it was due to no signal, but then it got a location of me being in China or India (I'm from central Europe). Had this issue on KitKat and Lollipop, but only on stock ROMs. Few months ago I switched to a custom one and all my problems are gone.

I think you should visit A Samsung Service Centre close to you.
