Editorial: Samsung, sort out the GPS and Bluetooth on the Galaxy lineup

25 October, 2015
I am an avid phone user, but I don't need that much from a device. That's the reason why throughout the last couple of years I am mostly using a current-gen iPhone as my primary device. But I always try to stay in the Android and Windows loop, so I often experiment with my secondary smartphone.

Samsung galaxy phones are notorious for bad gps and bluetooth
My brother went from a note 3 to note 4 in the hope of ending his gps woes. Loosing connection while using Google maps. He was alone. I was often let down on the motorway with my note 4 Loosing signal only to regain it just as I'm passing the exit I needed.
I have a Renault and the note 3, note 4 and s6 edge I currently own all lock the blue tooth stereo up in the car. I have to pull the fuse out or the stereo remains lit up even when I remove the keys. I had an htc one m8 that connected no problem and a currently a honor 7 which connects to the stereo no problem too.young sony sbh80 and sbh70 both randomly connect and disconnect the bluetooth on the s6 edge whereas on a Blackberry Passport and honor 7 the connection remains solid.
The worse thing is Samsung deny this. My brother took both his note 3 and note 4 back to a samsung store. After the usual hard reset question which he'd obviously done they would take the phone and return it with the same gps issues. He has finally give up on Samsung and sold the note 4 with his gear vr unit which since the update to lollipop constantly over heated so you couldn't watch a film. (This is apparently normal according to the Samsung store too) and is going to buy an honor 7 after seeing mine and pickett the rest of the cash
My s6 edge is being sold to fund a Blackberry priv next month so that means my gear s smartwatch watch and gear circle headset will be going too. I always championed samsung and have bougot all the note series to the note 4 the note 5 not being offered in the uk. I owned the s2, s3 and s6 edge because I liked their handsets but if I'm paying the kind of money samsung are asking for an s6 edge 64gb (I buy myv phones sim free) and I find that a phone that costs less than a 3rd I paid for my s6 edge the honor 7 performs better in everyday use. The battery lasts a day without charging, the finger print scanner actually works and I can use the bluetooth in my car then I can no longer justify samsungs substandard offerings. Those who don't have problems with gps and bluetooth are the lucky ones I've found.

My Note 3 can be very temperamental in locking in GPS and even then it drops out from time to time. Very frustrating. But on my new Note 5, and other Galaxy phones in my family, eg S4 & S6, gps has been fine. Never had Bluetooth woes on any device

AnonD-273156, 25 Oct 2015Samsung Galaxy series is biggest flopl....all of my phones ... moreYeah it does and it is the ram management issues i think. The moment i clear off the ram the phone is really fast, i guess it's the price to pay for having multitasking.

Galaxy S1 had terrible GPS issues but since S2, Note 3 and now Note 5, i never had GPS or Bluetooth issues. On the contrary, i do have Bluetooth issues on my iPod Touch disconnecting every now and then from my speakers and the devices weren't even far from one another. My location is always near pin point accurate and lock on fast. Maybe the military is conducting some experiment in your area lol.

Samsung Galaxy series is biggest flopl....all of my phones core, s2, s3, s4 slowed down after a year of use. All of the applications including phone dialler slowed down. Sometimes takes 4 seconds to openup an app. Did factory reset many times. But again works fast for a week.

I heard the same problem with many galaxy users in web. Also heard from my friends.
Samsung bring out astonishing features with their new galaxy phones every time they launch but what is the use when the phone is crawling..

Already apple regained the position, this created pressure from top end.
The smaller players like xioami, lenovo, oneplus, moto, and others flooding with theiir phones with the same features for half the price. This created pressure from bottom.

The lessons to be learnt by samsung are:
From Apple : A phone made is made, no compromise on any feature, hardware /software. I f a feature is given must be atleast 100% working.
From Others: The plus point you have is the brand value. The reason for losing brand value in resent times is again due to the problems facing in basic things like slowing down...

Note: In my case, I feel the reason for slowing down is due to problems in TouchWiz UI or some memory leakage issues in memory or memory cells expiry leading to insufficient memory , or due to the poor conducting material used on the board.

Samsung....Please take it positively...you will be king

I had huge problem with my SGS3's GPS. (maybe to do with dropping and breaking the screen)

Other than that, SGS 2 and 5 never had issues with neither GPS nor BT.

Have an i9300 with cm12.1 and apart a few bugs that are there due to lack of support from samsung and a few connection issues due to a "tired" antenna, everyhting works well.

I had similar experiences, I used to travel between various states in India. in Delhi Maharashtra and Rajasthan it's perfect. but when I reach Kerala or tamilnadu there are some issues with weather app. it looks like it is a problem with Samsung's internal data. but in my experience it connects with car's Bluetooth and home theatre without any problem.

Maybe the problem is related to where Google or Samsung has your home coordinates related in their databases.
Have you made the test with another Samsung or Android phone in your house to see if the problem is not HW related?

Sorry to say that, but I am pretty sure this guy is not telling the truth. An enthusiast whom uses only iphones as a daily driver. He mentioned using android and windows devices but goes straight ahead shaming samsung. I used every single iphone gen and i don't think that anybody would be surprised if I say that apple maps are useless and Bluetooth connectivity... i can't even share my pictures and videos with my friends using that brick. The iphone is the smartphone that needs upgrades in connectivity, common its nearly 2016 no nfc wifi direct dlna and pnly syncs via itunes ....

I have never had such issues with my Galaxies. My wife and close friend either. The story seems to me not so realistic. This does not mean that I haven't experienced any problems with my devices but I think the story is exaggerated.

I have both Nexus 6 and S6 Edge. I tried both of them for navigation and Google now. Both of them are very accurate for navigation and Google now never failed me with it information. oh, I live in U.S by the way.

I have android phones for years (Xperia X10, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S6) and I haven't had issues with GPS or Bluetooth (By the way I'm living in Australia). As I know the google location service uses combination of wifi and GPS signals to speed up the cold start positioning. Usually, in start up of positioning it uses wifi signal strength and its MAC address, so I guess google registered the MAC address of your wifi modem somewhere in egypt. Or there might be a wifi modem in egypt with similar MAC address of yours :D

I use Note 4 N-910G variant. I do face lot of GPS issues. Not only cold startup, also during navigation. Location keeps jumping from one place to another, compass keeps wondering which direction to point and gps goes off in between and doesn't turn up for few minutes. And GPS is just a part of the complaints i have. We expect flawless device when we pay hell lot of money for flagship devices. I never had such bugs in other brands i used. Pathetic Shamesung.

Anonymous, 25 Oct 2015Shouldn't everybody first download a GPS resetting app to b... moreWell, if their phones require a "GPS reseting" app to function properly, then shouldn't they just include it in their ROM? Better! Make the process automatic!
If other manufacturers are able to do "the magic", why can't Samsung?
