Editorial: Samsung, sort out the GPS and Bluetooth on the Galaxy lineup

25 October, 2015
I am an avid phone user, but I don't need that much from a device. That's the reason why throughout the last couple of years I am mostly using a current-gen iPhone as my primary device. But I always try to stay in the Android and Windows loop, so I often experiment with my secondary smartphone.

I only had 1 Samsung handset -Note II- and it was back when it was their greatest. I never had such issues with it and worked perfectly fine. It is kind of weird but what I think that might cause the GPS to report stupid locations is using fakelocation apps and whatnot!

dear editor. you're probably a Jumper deep down inside without you realizing it and teleport all over the world while you sleep with your phone.
now you should watch your back after posting this, the Paladins might be looking for you now

Since iphone 3gs I have been using iphone till iphone 6. Replaced that with s6 edge. Just after reading your article I tried Google maps no issue at all. It even shows correct building. I use my maps sometime to call taxi. They always reach right place using my pinned location on there app. So don't know why you are facing such issue.

I've owned all the note series. Never had an issue similar to what you're talking about. If you want to address an open letter to samsung, there are many areas for improvement (just like any other company, no one's perfect).

As I remember map issue was on apple maps.(At least read about it). And I am using Note series starting from Note2 and never had any issue even in places like Siberia. As editor is using apple why don't you connect iphone instead buying Samsung? No need to throw a trash on a Samsung. Instead why don't you write same thing about apple? :) Apple and Samsung are the best phone manufacturers.

Long story short, Stop buying samsung mobiles. Try Other Brands ..

                  Simple and short. No.
I didnt had that problem, my friends didnt had it. You are actually first person who I found with this problem.
Of course people complain about BT and GPS on forums, especially on XDA, but those are specific problems of ROM or app.

So just because you had such problem I dont think that you could say that ALL of Samsung devices have such problem.
Because for now its like saying that coca cola is bad because few cans of cola from 10000000000000000000000000000 made every weeks had bad...

I can say the same about Sony, I used xperias almost from start and I can say that every Xperia camera svck... because I had few of devices... its not cool dont you think? Because there are xperias with good camera quality, like Arc S or Z3.

My Galaxy Note 2 sometimes does not connect to my car Bluetooth like 20% of the time fails, though have not had any problem with GPS.

Not sure what this guy and his article is on about. I have had the s3 S4 S5 and now have the s6 all have been brilliant on GPS. I use them a lot as it's essential equipment for doing courier work for a living.

                            No bluetooth problems.

And very accurate GPS on my S2, S5 and A3.
But, I never let Android/Google "Improve Location Accuracy" !!
                            It's most probably that.

                            Good luck...

I must say since the Galaxy S3, I've never had any GPS issues with my Galaxy handsets. I would particularly single out the Note 3 for being excellent in this respect.

                              Have the Edge+ now

I have galaxy s6, constantly connect it to BT speakers. Never had a single issue. GPS locks super fast too.

Please test other brands too,I payed alot off money for xperia and it is impossible to make a voice dial with bluetooth in the car.About voice navigation like lumia, without looking the screen, sony didn't hear about it. That happened from 4.2 to 5.1,so they don't even try.In 4.4 they pulled out completely the voice calling app.I refer,to voice call without touching the phone, push green button on car set and saying name or task. All android owners are invited to test that.Xperia will give a black screen probably.

You are a phone enthusiast you say?
                                      And you write such article?
I've had Samsung all the time I never had problems.
If you are a phone enthusiast, you should know how to use it to its fullest.
iPhone is the same. As you get new firmware update, older devices slow down.
I've had note 1 note 2 note 3 and note 4 which non of them had any problems what so ever. I am an phone enthusiast not a hacker or a developer.
I love all phones but windows mobile. Yet.

wasn't aware of this, the European Galaxies haven't got these issues, must be something with the US devices?
