Apple sued over iOS 9's WiFi Assist feature

24 October, 2015
A Florida-based couple has filed a class action lawsuit against Apple, claiming that the iPhone-maker didn't clearly explain how the WiFi Assist feature in iOS 9 affects cellular data consumption. The couple has accused the company of violating California's Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law, as well as of negligent misrepresentation, and is demanding $5 million in damages.

They should have bought an Android phone. And would not have such troubles from the start.
(Hey, if those two are trolling why can't I?) :P

UB, 25 Oct 2015lol, what phone are you buying that comes with a manual for... moreI'm no iphone user. But an ipad user. I still have my old ipad 3. Which is (Escape from jail term) used by my brother(which has autism btw). And never had let go of the tablet since he's enjoying using it. Meanwhile, I have an android tablet which is a samsung galaxy tab 4. Which I only enjoy using it to play downloaded videos. But, for apps. It's a choosy one. You cannot even play snapdragon optimized apps or even tegra apps on the samsung tab 4 without rooting it.

This is where Android OS used in Samsung and others excel!

Common Apple, how hard it is to prompt/warn user first when using any function in iPhone, iPad? Still unbelievable when my iPhone 6 Plus, 6S and iPad restarted by itself without any prompt telling me what or where the hell my iOS devices going wrong.

There is no instruction about the feature in manual. It is an IOS9 new feature. Apple only updated their website regarding the feature after the couple complained. Plus, there is no turn off feature in iphone 4s and ipad 2. The law suit is pretty reasonable to me.

This country is so lawsuit-happy. Almost every little thing is made into a federal case whether it makes sense or not. I get that such laws are there to protect consumers' rights against corporation abuse, but come on! $5M in "damages" because you didn't read your damn manual on how to turn OFF the phone data feature? Basically demanding money for something that's the couple's fault. Seriously? oh lols

For me this is a user error more or less...here in Philippines even a 7 yrs old kid knows the functions of an iPhone, its feature etc. Before Apple release the IOS9 its clear in the keynote that it was explained breifly the Assist wifi feature. As an iPhone user u should familiarize the different function of its feature... Its like you owned a car and u only know how to drive forward but you don't know how to the in reverse.

AnonD-446990, 24 Oct 2015Isn't this the second time Apple got sued? :/Yes. It was just last week sued by a university for patent infringement. Now sued by a couple from Florida for false advertising on Wifi Assist feature. Don't bother. Apple fan said $200million charges last time is no big deal for Apple. This $5million sum is just small matter for them. Meh.
