There are elements from Maemo. Clearly multi tasking was something that looked a lot like it. Apart from that multiple homescreen is something made popular by HTCs Touch Flo, how about the good old times of most things on single screen, something like Symbian^1's widget homescreen or active standby. There didn't seem any problem with that. These changes look a lot like usability-for-dumb minded. There's alrready enough out there like this, headed by the iPhone. How about something for the intelligent?

the videos only show the UI, not full fledge of the Symbian^4 OS functionality, as you see on the video, the only part has been shown is only the gallery app, photos grouped automatically by location, in this demo shown "Seen in London" meaning those picture taken on city of London assigned by inbuilt GPS of the phone. I think that a new think and you can actually sees the location of the pictures in Ovi Map which is free and faster thanks to the ability to saved the map on your memory card. In the other areas of native applications of Symbian^4 we have not seen yet another innovation, so don't make a judgment of your own. Symbian is most mature and functional mobile OS. If you want an eye candy UI (only) and full control style of Apple, and being consume everyday by Apple app store and Itune crap, you should go for Iphone

Reading through the blogs you can see positive comments made by either Symbian or Nokia developers!! But they are all alone and not in touch with their customer's wants and reality.
Honestly after travelling the world talking to operators talking to users and after visiting the Mobile World Congress this month in Spain I have to say if I fast forward to 2012 I expect to Android OS starting taking the new lead. Android designed for mobiles and open source allows 'any' developer to create apps not like iphone which have to go through a very strict committee like iphone OS to approve and it also 'must' reside in the itunes proprietary store.
Android OS will be followed by iphone due to early adopters who are also big ipod, nano and itunes fans. The problem with iphone is it is IT/PC trying to be a mobile phone to fit in 10% of the screen and power. Apple would of been better to hire engineers from Ericsson and Nokia who understand what has been expected from voice, sms, HSPA data and 2G/3G radio communications to help the IT developers at Apple to design a phone which is a communications device first and then seamlessly integrated with PC/internet capabilities. iphone has radio reception issues if coverage is in low to medium coverage strength, no UMTS 900, no multitasking, does not allow for full SMS capabilities including auto save if receiving a phone call, not tethering capabilities, in addtion their current appalling integration with your Microsoft office outlook, push email, contacts grouping, as well as adding a decent camera flash and better lens etc. If iphone does not resolve all these issues they will lose 50% market share within 2 years.
The dark horse will be Mobile7. They launched the new OS but understand handsets will not come out until the end of 2010??? Whilst Microsoft is working with handset vendors to install WinMo7, Microsoft needs to keep developing apps and capabilities currently coming out on Android and iphone over the next six months otherwise WinMo7 will be six to 12 months behind Android and iphone when they lauch in Q4 2010/ Q1 2011 and WinMo 7 will dissapear within 2 years or stay in a very small niche market for business users.
Symbian, well sorry, they still have a clunky OS which intermittently freezes is no longer user friendly, slow, poor touch screen performance and has lost all innovation as there is nothing concrete and meaningful coming out over the next 12 months so I suspect unless Symbian start listening to what the users want across 'all' demographics rather than what engineers or developers think customers may want then I suspect Symbian will be dead within 3- 5 years....

JohnnyLarsonJr, 26 Feb 2010I think is too early to speculate. This news looks like a f... moreWindows Phone 7 is a user customizable UI. What they won't allow is significant customization and skins by the OEMs. I have no problem with that at all.

Symbian's a "dead man walking" (and it is taking Nokia's market share down with it). Android's going to kill it off in a few years.
Symbian developers just don't get it. It's not just the UI. They gotta have a better app store. Better integration with web based services (particularly with a lot of Google's services). Better desktop interfaces. They aren't working on that stuff. They are just trying to make the UI look prettier.

This is totally fake. How can Symbian^4 look like this when Symbian^3 looks completely different and not even out yet. I don't believe Nokia is even thinking about Symbian^4 right now, they are working on Symbian^3, Moblin and Maemo, none of the by the way looks nothing like this. This is probably just a fanvideo at Symbain.org, teher are hundreds of them. GSMarena need to check their recources and step up the quality a few levels on this webpage.
Everytime there is dryspell of news inthe mobile business, GSMarena finds nonsense stuff to post just to keep the webpage hits going.

Its not a question of innovation - its a question of quality!
Nokia delivers highest quality, regardless of your Symbian bashing.
Steve Jobs cheets with a tiny speed advantage by not providing multitasking - so you dont get multitasking. Ad he tells you that Flash is an old technology, which means that you dont get it although most websites use it. Nokias Symbian phones provide that functions all and many more.
