Anonymous, 03 Nov 2015For comparison - whats the score of say a recent Intel lapt... moreAn intel laptop grade CPU is a bit abstract, although an intel I5 5200U (2.2Ghz Dual Core) scores around 2500/5000.

Though Geekbench 3 for android ARM and for windows x64 CPUs is not quite the same...

The single-core score of ~1700 is not thaaat impressive. Especially considering Note 5 does about 1500 already. Seems like backing down on clock-speed from 2.5 Ghz when announced initially to 2.4 later & 2.2 Ghz now has had some consequences, especially when Mediatek will have 2 A72 cores @ 2.5 GHz and later 4 @ 2.5 GHz (alongwith another 2 @ 2.0 GHz). And in the next quarter or two Qualcomm & Samsung will have launched their custom core with scores, and thus performance per-core, much higher than than this.

IMHO they quickly need to come out with the successor of this chip manufactured on 16nm FF+ (intead of plain 16nmFF now) with the A72 cores running at 2.6-2.6 GHz.

Seems like they have clocked down the A53 cores also, from 2.0 GHz earlier to 1.8 GHz now. Anyways, one thing Huawei is good at- is making chips that neither heat much nor consume too much power. That must be the reason why they reduced the clocks on both the clusters by 200 MHz...

I just made a test on my laptop with Intel i5-4200U.
          The result is, uhm... embarassing.
          Single Core: 2453
          Multi Core: 4672

          Note that:
          (1) this processor is 2 generations old, and
          (2) GeekBench test was run in 32 bits only (64 bit available in full, paid version).

Still, I would be suprised if this Kirin (or any mobile processor today) would have actually been FASTER in things like: file compression, video processing, numbers-crunching.

I still cant stop thinking about Apple's results. Dual core cpu that can compete with 8 core cpus and it even beats them in single core performance without a sweat. DAYMN !!!

That the Kirin 950 beats the Exynos 7420 is good - don't want Samsung to start resting on its laurels.

since exynos throttles at multiple benchmarks it should not be compared as the best performing SoC or else it sounds like an advertisement

This is all irrelevant, snapdragon is still the best as it has most features and that's what really matters and of course the adreno 530 is going to be an extremely powerful gpu.

                          Helio X20 ...

will be waiting in for real world performance..

leo sk, 03 Nov 2015Snapdragon had always been behind mediatek in raw cpu perfo... moreAnd what happens to kirin 950. Well if mediatek is indeed packing 4 arm a72 in deca core chip and have the faintest idea of what they are doing, helios x30 will stand somewhere between exynos m1 and kirin 950.

Snapdragon had always been behind mediatek in raw cpu performance. And then from nowhere they were gobbled by exynos. It seems their positions for the next year flagships will remain unchanged. Snapdragon 820 will come with not so powerful cpu with excellent graphics processor, mediatek with superb cpu but a weak graphics processor, and exynos will beat all the competition to dust with a superpowerful cpu and a balanced gpu.

exynos chipset was way ahead of its time.
in a fast moving world of technology....it took 9-10 months for any chipset to beat exynos 7240

I feel that SoCs are getting overkill perfomance, except in the GPU department where the fail to deliver and improvement is yet to come.
