Xiaomi Gemini (Mi 5) appears on Geekbench, will use Snapdragon 820

11 November, 2015
Exceptional single-core result and an average multi-core figure in this early version of Xiaomi's next-gen flagship.

G2 user, 12 Nov 2015well i think that s820 will be a real beast because geenk i... moreMight actually see that in the next xperia Z compact. Many Apps etc only use one core anyway so performance should be noticeably good.

For the multicore performance to be that low when the single core performance is so high would suggest some kind of throttling. Maybe the overheating problems are back again?

AnonD-184674, 13 Nov 2015Have you ever read how the S820 works and how is designed? ... moreThat's interesting. This and the exynos are looking so different I'm starting to doubt Samsung will even use both of them.

But why is Gemini benched with 4 small cores? Will it not be using the bigger cores?

What's also interesting is that single core scores for the bigger cores will probably be much higher than exynos.

People wanted more and more and more powerful processors. And please note that to increase the power of a processor, you either add more cores, or increase the clock speed. And guess what, either method will make any processor produce more heat.

Oh, and complain to the software developers for making apps power-hungry.

The SD820 runs great on single-core but when it fires up all multicore the chip heats up and throttles down.. Hence the low multi-core score.. SD820 going to flop again.. Guess we have to wait until SD830 sigh

Muthu, 12 Nov 2015That is an interesting observation. Does that mean Qualcomm... moreWell according to my observation i think xiaomi was testing its power and overheating issue.thats why they have underclocked it
But even at that low frequency its very powerful.when it releases we will see it at its full power i.e. 2.2 ghz clocked kyro cores.

well i think that s820 will be a real beast because geenk is not the only bench avaliable plus.... dont forget the amazing adreno card it has included too, so over 2000 for single core means lag free on a 2k screen do u imaging such a beast on a 1080p screen or why not with a compat 720p screen ..will crush what ever is infront of it.

Does that mean Qualcomm has overheating/throttling issues with SD 820 as well (reduced clock speed to avoid overheating, lesser multi-core score pointing to throttling)? I don't want to jump to conclusions like others have done in different threads, but afraid that might be the case. Need to wait for couple of months to know the real truth.
