19 March, 2010
They say you shouldn't count your chickens before they hatch, but according to a market survey Android has laid a lot of eggs in North America. The total number of smartphone shipments will rise by 38%...

Barcode, 19 Mar 2010lol you wouldnt say that about Symbian outside of the US That's because in the us the are trick into thinking if they buy a hand set with a contact it's a good deal.
But if you buy a handset unlock you will save 30% over one on a contract.

deep space bar, 19 Mar 2010never follow the ovi store for nokia there are millions of ... moreBut shouldnt an app store be readily accessable from a device? Maybe im not following you.

Don't get me wrong though, I am rooting for Android. What we need in the mobile market is an app store like Apple's, that can give a lot of software, and not just ringtones and videos. My experience of the ovi store has been bad. Apple does it so much better than Nokia.

The ideal OS would cater to a single dominant app store, without network interference and less variations in handset specs.

Windows 7 is everything but a revolution, coming out at the end of the year, Symbian promises good stuff but rather late comparing to Android...
In three months time, market will be flooded with great android phones, with no new symbian nor win 7 phones...
maybe next year, symbian and win 7 will have a word to say...

Android will also enjoy good success worldwide in Asia and also Europe where it will face the Meego OS in the next generation of Nokia's high end devices.

                  go to site

go look up s60 apps and you'll see how much you'll find

and the real reason why s60 and BBOS crash is because it's an OS specifically made for phones

                  same with android

android must of had it's fair share of problems since the OS is made phones but now being ported to tablets and net books

Tried Symbian, but it fails because of a poor app store, and the fact it has to be reconfigured many many times for the devices out there, resulting in bugs and crashes when companies like Nokia release them early.

Having said that though, my N86 is pretty remarkable in a old-school way.

                      Lol at the iphone haters.

You do realise that the iphone OS is on just one device don't you, that's been upgraded but essentially the same since 2007?

                      iphone = win

Android is catching up now, but I'm wondering how their app store will cope with multiple devices running the same OS?

Either way, just wait and see what Apple produce next. If they improve the GFX and camera, and add proper multi tasking then watch Android lag lag behind.

I am quite certain BADA will take a few percent already in their first 8 monnths...
Just watch Samsung with their S8500, other models will follow.
And they will price it at the lowest level they can afford, as a promotion of their new OS.
The spectacular S8500 will only cost some 395/395 euros, I guess.
Easy to choose thenn compared to a 650 euros i-phone...

Blackberry's sole USP is push email, you can hardly call them multimedia 'smart phones'. Android has been so well thought out from the ground upwards

                                Palm will be dead.

They already are on their last legs with too much inventory nobody wants and horrible sales figures.

People are buying Android phone's and Blackberries instead on Verizon and Sprint.

                                The article is speculation.

See, maemo is a new OS with so many issues (like Symbian or Android or even Wino when was first launched) but there's people here who say this one is the best after Symbian.

lol symbian is never gonna die

                                        plus

if you understand how symbian works it's the most advanced OS on a mobile device

                                        then comes maemo then android

you can download thousands of apps from apple but
look what symbian was doing 5 years ago

the newer OSs are just doing it now or trying

symbian is open source now so and they gave the codes aways for free so anyone can design the symbian OS or mod it

people that don't understand symbian just want it to look nicer instead of it running better
