I don't see the point in this; Opera has been painfully slow on every device i've used it on (Various Nokias, HTCs (Android & WinMo) and HPs), except for the HD2. Maybe they should spend more time developing for all the other platforms before spending all this time developing for the iPhone (which already has a perfect browser), which will probably get turned away from the App Store knowing Apple anyway.

From the Opera Mini FAQ:-
Is there any end-to-end security between my handset and — for example — paypal.com or my bank?
No. If you need full end-to-end encryption, you should use a full Web browser such as Opera Mobile.
Opera Mini uses a transcoder server to translate HTML/CSS/JavaScript into a more compact format. It will also shrink any images to fit the screen of your handset. This translation step makes Opera Mini fast, small, and also very cheap to use. To be able to do this translation, the Opera Mini server needs to have access to the unencrypted version of the Web page. Therefore no end-to-end encryption between the client and the remote Web server is possible.
I'll stick to Safari, I don't need a cut down browser.

If Apple approve this, then it will be huge. However, I'm happy enough with Safari at the moment.
I love these iphone news stories, it brings out all the envious trolls.
The iphone is a great device. Get used to it.

It'll probably be declined because apple doesn't want competition. Maybe they'll sue opera for making it look similar to safari? I predict this will happen.

Hopefully they approve it, it's an excellent browser. I've been using the beta of Mini 5 on my Hero and it works just fine. The only complaint I have is the lack of multitouch and pinch-zooming.
