Nokia is still trying to catch up. They're really getting far behind the competition against Apple and Android. Samsung and LG might even overtake them soon. And Motorola is gaining so much success lately as well. Nokia should start producing Android devices if they want to keep up.

Anonymous, 02 Apr 2010What about the backup/sync functions... like who would even... morethat was the way they found out that a complete backup/sync to a pc suite is highly needed.
most OTA updates on the n900 works perfectly, the back up is a "just in case" option.
the person did that just performed the back-up on microsd card, which was deleted by the MeeGo update.

Greg, 05 Apr 2010Disagree, the N900 was marketed miserably but the platform ... moreN900 wasn't marketed, it's strictly aimed at the linux community and as far as we are concerned there are already too many people who don't belong to linux owning a N900. Meego will come to N900 but it's still the same linux you run on your PC - the name makes no difference.
As for android... what's the fuss? Google wasn't able to create a mobile version of linux so they created a watered down version which only breaks compatibility.
Android = failed open source experience.

someone, 05 Apr 2010Who cares. meego is dead. maemo was a failed project before... moreWhat support dropped? N900 gets updates monthly and linux is the most diversified platform in the world.
A linux device is a device that doesn't age and doesn't depend on support from any company, it's constantly being developed and upgraded;)

someone, 05 Apr 2010Who cares. meego is dead. maemo was a failed project before... moreDisagree, the N900 was marketed miserably but the platform is virtually a Maemo spinoff. they have not abandoned the OS, and as an avid user of the N900 and Nexus One you are dead wrong, I find the OS is way overhyped and that it misses key features such as the HTML5 player or f;ash which the N900 has, it's multitasking is a failiure to say the least and the fact that some versions don't support 16m colours and doesn't provide a camera emulation for support. Android isn't for everyone, it's gaining popularity but it is overhyped like Windows was when it started, at least that OS offered the neccessities to hardcore business users but Android doesn't entirely. Your argument is flawed. It will be asuccess yes, but who's to say MeeGo will be a failiure, the fact that Nokia has a large market share and are coninuing to push for other markets and invests most of it's budget into reseach for future technologies and targets the appropriatte market rather than clutter it with cookie clutter garbage like Google speaks volumes.

Who cares. meego is dead. maemo was a failed project before the n900 came out. The only thing that matters to business is cash flow. The n900 sold miserably and nokia is losing a large portion of their customer base because they can't keep up with the competition. everyone knows that android is hot right now and instead of joining the bandwagon and making a few dollars, they decided to try something new and unproven. Just watch them in a few months drop all support for meego like they did maemo.

Raj Kumar, 03 Apr 2010Its nice to know, I have updated the new Meego but most imp... morefor *# there's a widget that does just that, even more you can set it to auto-update, so that the balance will be displayed daly on one of your desktops.
As for messenger there's the native linux messenger Pigdin that supports all known services and each ones's emoticons and plugins for N900's own messaging system that also support all available chat services.

some have tried this...and unfortunately wreck their n900's
well in software technicalities of course, its like their devices run through a full reformat. no contacts, calendars, apps, all files in hard drive was deleted and many more. but its still on testing ptocess, so its likely to occur.
