LG hints its G5 will have a removable battery while poking fun at Samsung

29 January, 2016
Many users were upset when Samsung decided to discontinue a removable battery design and we hope LG does not go the same direction as Samsung as LG is one of the few phone makers that still design its smartphones with hot-swappable battery.

Mumbai-Indians, 30 Jan 2016Agreed. We need 1080P display 5" or 5.2", removable batter... moreLol you should have looked at the Mi5c. 5" 1080p IPS LCD, SD808 with 3GB RAM, 3080mAh battery,USB type C, IR blaster, dual sim, good audio, good camera (GSMarena called it probably the best 13MP at the time), 7.8mm thick. Costs $230. And you can put "stock" Android on it (CM13).

Non removable battery is part of "planned obsolescence" of these money hungry and environment unfriendly manufacturers. A battery generally has limited charge/discharge cycles and after some time its performance degrades. A removable battery can help refresh the phones battery backup like new - something that these manufacturers dont want. So planned obsolescence - degrade new software on old devices, make phone virtually unrepairable, no battery replacement, no memory expansion, etc... Utter shame.

        hahahah LG > Samsung

In technology every little spec is important! But having said that, LG really deserve huge compliments, 1, to keep the removable battery feature and even more to keep the (micro SD card slot) really compliments to LG! and if this year Samsung will not re-incorporate-the SD in the S7, it will be really a SHAME for Samsung!!!!!!

Before lg goes around poking fun how about they fix their battery issues?
The G3 was taller, wider, and thicker than the G2....but had the sane size battery. But also had more power hungry parts and healthy decline in battery endurance.
Then the G4 was Taler l taller and thicket yet than the G3 while still having the same size display. ...and "still" the same sized battery. While also claiming the display was like 20%brighter which was a lie. It's better and more visible because of quality but was almost identical. And battery life was still a mixed bag.
It was a 2015 flagship device and it was almost 10mm thick. ...and still had the same 3000mah battery from two generations ago that was in a smaller and thinner phone and had worse battery life than it. ....unacceptable

And I hope that they will keep it forever!!? And that Samsung this year with the S7 or at least next year with the S8, will return with the removable battery feature again!!?

This is what I want to see in G5
                  1. 5.2inch 2k panel with LGs white OLED tech.
                  2. 20mp 1/2inch BSI sensor with f1.6 aperture lens and phase detect AF + Laser Detect AF
                  3. SD 820 with 4GB DDR4 RAM
                  4. 3600MAH Battery with QC 3.0
                  5. HIFI 32bit audio chip like the V10.

We need 1080P display 5" or 5.2", removable battery with enough battery endurance(> 3500mAH), decent SOC with enough GPU muscle(not MediaTek) & optional dual sim that's all.

I like many others was a little annoyed when samsung dropped micro sd support and removable battery, however with very little effort i have adapted to both, i now have a spare fast charging portable battery with 10,000mAh capacity and 2 fast charging usb ports and 1 micro usb port and built in torch, on my travels i can charge my camera phone and tablet on 1 single charge, and i have a 1tb ssd samsung hd which is about the size of half a credit card so my days of micro sd belong soley with my tablet, people dont like change but its life and not difficult

I am one of those that doesnt change his phones like his clothes. I still have my galaxy s2 and i used 2 batteries with it. I m in the need of a 3rd right now but i m more likely to purchase another phone. I think it's time. My point is, IF my galaxy s2 had non-removable battery, i would have changed 3 phones by now. So no, i m never going to purchase a non-removoble battery phone. I think it's time to switch to LG i guess, i just hope that monstrous 5.6 screen aint true

Actually that's one of the main points of removable battery , no "off time", actually it's awesome. It can only become better by adding a 200mah embedded battery on phones so that you won't have to turn it off while swapping the battery (the secondary would give juice for a few minutes at a time)

Turning phone off and etc takes too much :/ + you have to charge the batteries anyway!

If they can do it (removable battery on G5), its gonna be another success story after G4 & V10. Either you put a >3500mAh battery or a removable battery (later is more preferable). Reason I prefer removable battery is, how carefully you charge/discharge your phone, battery capacity gonna decrease. My stock Note 4 battery was giving me about 4 & half to less than 5 hours of screen on time. After changing the battery, I'm getting more than 6 hours of screen on time under same settings! Thats why removable battery is a big deal!!!
