2016 Moto G and Moto X shots surface online

08 February, 2016
Both models look thinner and slicker than their predecessors and the Moto X appears to have a metal body as well.

There will be a "premium" Moto phone in 4th quarter, just like the last two years. Don't be a sucker and buy one of these. We're getting somewhere, but we haven't finished the journey yet.

_________

In 2014, all we had worth considering from Motorola was the Moto X "flagship" (which was basically a copy of the 2013 LG G2 -- 5.2", 10080p, 2GB RAM). I don't even consider Moto G or Moto E.

Then in 4th quarter they released the premium "Quark" -- Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo (depending on where you bought it). It was what the Moto X that year should have been!

The Quark was FANTASTIC -- 5.2" version of the 2014 Moto Nexus 6, but with choice of Kevlar or Ballistic Nylon + Kevlar back. I own three of the Moto Maxx XT1225, running them on AT&T. LTE bands 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 17.

_______

In 2015, what was the the "Moto X" became the "Moto X Style" in other countries. In the U.S. it was the Moto X Pure. It's ostensibly Motorola's "flagship" phone. 1440p, Snapdragon 8xx series.

The also released a mid-tier (6xx series) "Moto X" as the Droid Maxx 2/Moto X Play. Strangely had a bigger battery than the flagship, but lesser specs (slower CPU, less RAM, lower resolution, 1080p) than the "flagship".

Then, in 4th quarter the 2015 "Kinzie" was the 2014 Quark successor: Droid Turbo 2/Moto X Force. It was the "premium" phone. Snapdragon 8xx series, more RAM, bigger battery, with more features.

Confusing keeping up with all those names!

(Again, lower on the totem pole was the Moto G and Moto E series -- not even worth considering.)

For the 2015 "Moto X" an analogy would be the old automobile DX/LX/EX monikers. Honda would release Accord base model DX, then LX with a few more features and finally EX with the kitchen sink (more powerful engine, sunroof, etc).

Yes strange in the Moto world, the "DX" model has a bigger battery than the "LX" model...

Nevertheless, in 2016 Motorola is following this scheme again. Releasing two lower models for suckers. The REAL phone you want is coming in 4th quarter.

So, one of these in this article is the "flagship" 2016 Moto X (the 1440p model) and one is the 2016 version of the mid-tier Moto X Play/Droid Maxx 2 (the 1080p model with the bigger battery, yet Snapdragon 625, puny RAM). Renders of it with "Droid" logo have even leaked.

But neither of these phones is the 2016 version of the 2014 "Quark" (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx/Moto Turob) or 2015 "Kinzie" (Droid Turbo 3/Moto X Force) -- the top of the line phone with EVERYTHING. That will come closer to the end of the year.

That's why the "Vector Thin" has 1440p but puny 2550 mAh battery. And why the "Vortex" has only 1080p, Snapdragon 625 and but yet big 3550 mAh battery. The mid-tier Vortex also has laser auto-focus and rear camera OIS, while the supposedly more premium (higher resolution) "Vector Thin" does not. Why would you put those features on a Snapdragon 625 phone and not on your flagship phone? Why would you not put a bigger battery on a 1440p phone?

BECAUSE, the Vector Thin is for suckers. The REAL premium phone -- the "EX" model is coming in 4th quarter. It will have all the features of the "Vortex", with a bigger battery, rear camera OIS, laser autofocus, more RAM (6GB) and Snapdragon 823.

THAT yet unseen phone will be the Droid Turbo 3/Moto X Force (or whatever they call this year's international equivalent). Wait for it!

Bailey, 08 Feb 2016Simply really Motorola were not making any money if all the... moreExactly. And moto x pure was not on hype before release. When it released, BOOM. Good price to quality combo. And no special disadvantages plus stockish ROM. Every brand should make stick android ROM with only small tweaks.

things moto x user need the most is removable battery as Motorola service center only on selected area, so user can easily buy battery on e-buy and replace by our self. galaxy s6 has service center every where so is ok to put non-removable battery

At one point last year I wanted to buy the G 3rd gen but alas they never launched any latest Moto in my country.
OTOH Lenovo is kinda ubiquitos here.

The only reason I didnt buy this years moto G was because they removed the front facing speakers, WHY, last years model had it. ugh.

New moto phones will now ship with "Lenovo's UI" :( which begs the question of why would i want one of those instead of a samsung or an lg.

As for me, i'm going either for the Style or Force by this year's end, and I truly hope they won't backport lenovo's terrible UI with Aindroid 7 to the 2015 line.
