Most carriers phone can be unlocked if you buy them. If you owe money on them you will have to use a 3rd party to unlock unless you pay them off. I always unlock all my ATT Phones. I have a new S7 Active I just unlocked the other day and am using a T-Mobile chip in it right now.

Samsung has released a new Galaxy S7 that is cross carrier compatible which means it will work on any network. Might only be sold in the US though.

Wrong! you have to select a carrier when buying from samsung.com. Since I travel a great deal I always buy mine outside the USA. I will never use a carrier bought phone.

Otherwise A1522 may work in other countries but at 2g or less and is unlocked. all carriers in usa sell A1522. So I bought A1524 directly at apple store. SO i never buy from carriers. If was buying a Galaxy S7 edge it would have to be a non carrier phone. I do not want the carrier software on my phone. I travel a great deal so I switch sim cards all the time. I use 5 different ones right now. when in china i can call usa for less than 1 cent a minute with chinese sim card.
