Not sure if this locking mechanism makes the software update rollouts much easier and across carries same time for each region!!! With custom firmware for each locked carrier software rollouts required carrier specific testing which potentially delayed the rollouts.

There WILL ALWAYS be an unlocked version available. The one mentioned from this article are phones that are sold directly to phone companies like AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, etc...
This was implemented in order to have a simplified way of locking phones that are purchased from carriers.
Next time, before you complain try to understand the article. :D

This carrier locking is just plain bullcrap. A far as i know it serves no inteligent purpose. For this reason alone, the last two phones I bought were unlocked units. A simple Excel spreadsheet will let anyone calculate that paying for the phone up-front is much more cost effective long-term than having it bought at the carrier (while still paying the full price - if not higher - for the handset). Of course it's the money one's having to pay at the day of the purchase but carrier deals when not getting a phone are way better so one's better off that way, anyway.

no news for france , it s normal after 3 month the carrier unlock the sim for free ,with prouve ticket . but just wait special one for China - Taiwan with 2x sim and the prob is fix! no prob only solution

Only those who bought through carrier plan are locked. Because they do not pay for the device instead they are paying for the carrier service monthly

And Gsmarena headline is confusing the readers. It should re-titled as "Method to locked Samsung Galaxy S7 for carriers" (without ordering specific batches for that particular carrier). This article is not meant for consumers, it is meant for carrier provider. I see no neccessity in sharing this information other that causing panic attack among users.

Really depends on how you will understand this kind of Policy still there will be unlocked versions of the phone aside from the phones that will be sold through carriers where in no matter what kind of sim you will us it will still work. Remember the the slide presented is for carriers not for non-carrier/unlocked phones.
This is really no a deal breaker for phones sold through carriers in fact this is for the security of the phone/customer/account. In this way,1st once the phone is lost/stolen the phone cannot be used with a different sim as it will lock out to the carrier. 2nd the person who found/stoled the phone cannot cannot easily activate the phone to a different sim nor can easy request for a new sim to the carrier since security process will be followed (security questions/pin/esn and so on will be ask) and in case question will not be answered the there is no way a sim card replacement will be sent.
Yes it is our right as a consumer that once we buy the product we should have the right to have full ownership of that particular product however there are barrear and certain rules and regulations/guilines and policy that you will need to follow specially if that product is purchased through a carrier main/especially with regards to mobiles devices. On the other hand, if you purchase that phone through a carrier pain in full including which includes the contract in any case the carrier is obligated to unlock the phone then you have their right there.
With Regards to Region Lock, this is very common and not a deal break for me since different Regions have different bands and frequencies and i believe this will affect the pricing bracket of the phone on differnet regions...

Anonymous, 25 Feb 2016@LAAA I know it's a huge hassle and I am not a fan of it... moredude crime is not a problem if the phone gets stolen just buy another one, the real issue is that if i pay for a product its my property and i should be abble to do what ever i please with it and in this case paying an amout of $700+ i should be abble to use what ever sim card i want not some restricted brick that costs an arm and a leg. this is a direct violation of customers and basic human rights on the part of taking full ownership of a product away. its not right and i wonder how on earth are so many gorvenments allowing this sort of conduct its like they are selling us out, throwing us under the bus instead of protecting our rights from greedy companies that want nothing more than to just suck us dry, i cant belive how this is happening just how ? we need our voice as customers to be heard and this carrier sim lock thing is in direct violation of customers rights i dont care how the phone are accuired by customers, in the end we make the payments in full its like buying a car and the dealership tells u we will limit the travel range to only 250 killometers and the top speed to only 90km/h when the vehicle is not bought cash on the spot coz its financed, if its like that no one will be intrested in buying that car now would they?

This isn't new as far as im concerned.
My works Note 5's came from Bell (Canada) and I inserted a Rogers (Canada) SIM in it first before any other SIM and it worked with no issue. However it was locked to Rogers from that point on. Another model from the same order was inserted with a Bell SIM and it was locked to Bell. So even though they were bought through a provider, the first inserted SIM was the provider it locked to.
Maybe the Note 5's were the first of this breed of unlocking?

I know it's a huge hassle and I am not a fan of it either, but it somewhat protects you, by making it harder for people to steal your phone and knowing it will work for them. Now there is about a 1 in 3 or higher chance it will work, more if you include MVNOs
