Nokia will really need this feature since their stupid phones always hang like crazy when you fill it up. Just like their N97 which takes ages to open files when full. Their large capacity is soo useless and $hit since it will only hang the phone like crazy in the first place.

An awesome feat anyway, let's wait and laugh at apple while they copy technology nokia uses since 2007 (aka N810)

Anonymous, 31 May 2010I love the fact that because I do not appreciate a phone, I... moreyeah right i also have an iphone.but when my 5800xm come to my hand then i realise that iphone is a mediocare phone.dont promote the iphone apps cause i can do with 5800xm almost everything ur iphone can do.the 5800xm have every apps bout office and daily functionality,u can promote bout 3D games but im not interest gaming with a phone.
after using CFW almost every 5800xm user can have a snappy phone fully functioning and it only cost them $260? what bout ur iphone? and i think if i have nokia N8 i will use the USB OTG everyday,i always watching some movie in the bus and now if i can put the movie in flashdisk that will be great.

great feature. It frees the user from having to own a PC or pay huge data charges to there broadband providers. as such I expect it to be suppressed in less free markets like the USA. iMagine some of the newer cell phone makers could never offer such a feature as it would violate the complete control they have on the devices content.

Very useful feature... It would be really neat to copy files directly from usb drives onto the phone... Nokia is all about 'useful and practical' innovations... not changing wallpapers...

I had a similar feature on my Samsung YP-T8, a flash-based all-in-one media player. That was in 2005. The problem with USB Hosting (gsmarena needs to get their research right, it is not OTG but HOSTING) is that it sucks up power on the non-flash based devices, and devices that only charge via USB. External hard-drives (that are solely powered by USB) and some MP3 players (that charge only via USB) can suck the battery out of the device, and in some cases will suck so much power that it will force the host (ie, the N8 in this case) to turn off as the result. Your everyday flash drives worked just fine on the T8.
Nokia will have to be careful. It is due to the above reasons it is almost impossible to see devices with USB hosting; manufacturers haven't yet been able to perfect the feature yet.

I love the fact that because I do not appreciate a phone, I instantly have an iPhone. Yes I own an iPhone, but I also own a Nexus, both used for different reasons. Now I am sorry but this feature is simply a gimmick, if more than 1% of owners use this feature more than once a week I'll be incredibly surprised. And in regards to bluetooth file transfer on iPhone, it's an old shot, everyone is over it, it is clearly to protect the app store and itunes store and as frustrating as it is, the app store is powerful in itself, so it's a trade off you have to make. It's like if you buy a Nokia, you get a good camera but trade off by poor UI, bugs, underprocessed and frustratingly difficult customer service.I love my iPhone cause it does so many things far cleverer than other phones, but get incredibly frustrated with it's closed system, which does protect most end users, but at times they are far to closed, which is where android comes into it. However android isn't as fluid, has lots of bugs (3G issue the worst) and doesn't have as good of an app store, but i am free to break it however I want, once again trade offs.

A Very good idea from Nokia an better than using Bluetooth all the time to transfer media between phones,we will be seeing more innovations been put on the N8,an just dying to see an get my hands on the N8,but might not dive in straight away like i did when the N86 was released as i had 3 N86s in a week an the phone kept freezing an unfuntional,so might wait a couple of weeks before i get the N8 when its released
