AnonD-511743, 07 Mar 2016A lot of very uninformed and frankly flat out ignorant comm... moreThe z1s was released 2014 compared to the redmi note 3 that was released like november of last year. 2014's specs is really comparable since it is already somewhat outdated. Sony has a good camera but has not been good on image processing. Well, that is your opinion. We respect that.

It is too early to make an accurate and impartial analysis, between the two phones. Now you can discuss at teoretic level, only. Each of the phones they good and bad sides.
Only their behavior in a real environment, the everyday, we will show who is the best at the earliest, for over 3-4 months.

A lot of very uninformed and frankly flat out ignorant comments in this section. I live in Phoenix AZ, USA and if someone were to give me a choice of the Mi 5 vs a Xperia flagship, I'd take the Mi 5 even if I'd had to live with a 3G+ connection over a 4G LTE.
Obviously the price is a huge factor in these polls but I think the Mi 5 is one of the best flagship phones available on the market. For $300-450 depending on where you live, storage, availability/demand etc... you're getting a phone with:
-Snapdragon 820 CPU.
-UFS 2.0 storage which is basically like an SSD in a smart phone. To see how fast UFS 2.0 stroage is verse traditional storage, check here: http://bgr.com/2015/03/17/galaxy-s6-storage-benchmarks/
-Quick charge 3.0 for 100% charging in about an hour. So far only the LG G5 and Mi 5 support this.
-3000 mAH battery, more than your usual flagship, impressive especially at the 129G weight and very slim design.
-1080P screen for more optimized battery life, never understood why someone would want a 4K screen on a 5 inch device that'll just lag your phone and drain your battery 4 times as fast.
-5.15 inch screen which to me is a nice sweet spot of size and ease of use/grip.
-Fingerprint scanner.
-3-4GB of RAM.
-Elegant design with 3 choice of colors.
-MIUI while some hate it for being an IOS clone is very efficient and noticed no lag at all when using even budget Xiaomi phones.
-Optical image stabilization.
I own the Sony Xperia Z1S from Tmobile and I just finished paying it off after two years of monthly payments to a grand total of $550 and the phone is a complete disaster. It lags when going to the home screen, opening too many pages in Chrome will lag the phone, opening the camera is slow, photos have a yellowish hue to them, I've had it shutdown due to "overheating" once while simply watching Youtube videos, etc... basically I can't wait to get rid of it.
My girlfriend imported a Redmi Note 3 from China with the Mediatek CPU for $200 3GB RAM/32GB storage and the phone runs so smooth it's unbelievable. Now the Redmi Note 3 "Pro" edition comes with an upgraded Snapdragon 650 which is even faster than the Mediatek for only about $20-30 more. Her $200 phone is so much more responsive than mine, has a 4000mAH battery, fingerprint scanner and doesn't heat anywhere as much of what my Xperia does. Low light photo's are better on the Sony, but outdoor shots are about the same quality. Still in the end I just finished paying off a $550 phone that is already a mess performance wise.
As soon as prices drop on the Mi5 to acceptable levels as 3rd party vendors are gouging prices due to the huge demand and low availability, I'd gladly pick one up despite those who shun a phone simply because Xiaomi is a Chinese company. I never understood that mentality considering every phone including the $850 iPhone 6s 64GB edition, is still made in China by underpaid workers for a fraction of what they sell for.

Jin1234, 07 Mar 2016Sony keep being stubborn with its boxy and bulky design. Lo... moreLook at an iPhone thick bezels or look at Samsung's same old design but they keep selling these two handsets. The answer is marketing and that's it.
LCD's far better than oversaturated OLED display they only thing i love on Amoled is sunlight contrast , really superioor in comparison to the IPS LCD.

Sony keep being stubborn with its boxy and bulky design. Look at the bezel. 2016 and still thick. I blame it on LCD display. Should had go with the thinner OLED display which can help redyce bezel as well. However, Xiaomi did a good job even when using LCD too.

Gauron, 06 Mar 2016I am a long time Sony Fan but I don't like the new X series... moreBezels the same?
Bro, there is waterproofing. It won't be removed coz it's always found on their high end devices, Bezels on sides are narrower compared to others (I think)
Metal back, compared to glass, glass is a little bit curved. And has finger print scanner which was the reason for its power button to be redesigned.

mir, 06 Mar 2016A lot of sore sony fanboys here. Haha. Can't accept the fac... moreSo xiaomi's the hotshot now? Wow, the smartphone industry is really coming to an end. With sony, samsung, htc and apple starting the vr business, I can't see why xiaomi will not enter it as well and offer vr devices that are way cheaper(fishy) and with the same specs and features on the said big companies. When that will happen, the vr industry will start to fall too because people are falling blind for smartphones with the same specs but half the price. I also found the price of xiaomi phones compelling but that moment, I realized that Im becoming a moron just like you.

I am a long time Sony Fan but I don't like the new X series design -they removed waterproofing but the bezels are the same?. I would choose the Mi5 also, it is better on paper and in style.
