The Samsung has a much smaller sensor size so the depth of field (the area in focus at any one focussed point) will be much greater. This means the Samsung had far less work to do to keep things in focus. In addition the Canon's lens is much bigger and heavier to move so it will take more time. Whilst I'm still impressed with the Samsung it's not really a level playing field.

How many smartphones out there can say that they can beat a DSLR in autofucus? Apparently, there are two. Galaxy S7 & Galaxy S7 edge. Kudos to Samsung.

Light sport car vs Heavyloaded train in terms of acceleration (+/-).
Someone tryes to cancel physics laws. The mass of phones focusing element is 1/1000 of the DSLR focusing lens. So cheap 18-55 STM (205 g) is pretty fast.

Pretty impressive, Samsung seems that has nailed this time!!
In the past 5 years, all that i was asking from mobile phone cams, was better low light results.
In 2015 flagship phone cameras have reached a critical point of quality, that IMHO render any further improvement unnecessary, EXCEPT, low light conditions foto shooting,
thankfully Samsung realised that and focused there!

The G5 hasn't got a hope in matching this performance. At least it has a lot of gimmicks going for it.
