4 June, 2010
After all these years of manufacturing smartphones Nokia still has no Windows-powered smartphone. But that might change soon? In a recently leaked presentation on Nokia's software and services...

deep space bar, 04 Jun 2010it's common sense for only the people that understand that ... moreAs a linux user I've enjoyed the benefits of being able to run programs I am familiar with on Windows and OS X thanks to the cross-platform nature of open-source toolkits. If Nokia/Intel can actually pull off creating a common development platform for native applications using QT for a large range of devices I think the rewards would be far greater than just creating a shiny new interface and bumping a version number up, as needed as those are in today's market. The N900, which used another popular toolkit (GTK) has a surprisingly large (considering the market penetration of the device) number of third-party software available for it. If Nokia can consolidate its fragmented application landscape into its OVI market it may end up becoming a major advantage. Opening up and standardizing the symbian operating system might make a big difference.

LOL! It's not even Maemo anymore!

Nokia has no plan whatsoever... now it's Maemo, then Maemo 6, and then MeeGo, but wait! Before that was Windows and we didn't know?

All that in less than 6 months!

Can you believe it?!? It's no wonder why they lose more and more market among the most informed customers.

I say that finally nokia is in the right track if they give us something with WM7, finally!!!

And by the way, sharp build the kin series (and sidekicks that are actually part of microsoft) so, do your homework right next time.

Nokia and Sharp are the only big players not lying in bed with Big Brother. No matter how good Spydroid is, both Nokia and Sharp want to stay clean.

The point of this slide is to show off the cross-platform nature of QT development. Since the QT toolkit is available on many platforms (including linux, which is the foundation of meego, and windows), Nokia hopes that a developer can create an application once and run it on many different platforms. Thus a developer could write an app that would work on both a smartphone and a small windows device like a netbook. I see no reason why Nokia would want to crate a windows mobile phone. It merely wants to entice developers with the wide range of options that QT offers. I'm sure they will contrast this with Apple's development method where developers HAVE to use a platform that only works on one device: the iPhone.

That is stupid Eldar's mistake! Slide is obviously telling us about Nokia's services and programs made using QT and running on desktop Windows OS. Otherwise it would be called Windows Phone.
