AnonD-488678, 09 Mar 2016why can't stay in just one OS? why don't android just do up... moreBro, because Google provides Android as a free OS for Manufacturers...the problem is that they usually don't use stock android but a customer version, so they make more changes, add features and other stuff. That's why it takes so much time for the manufacturers to provide updates. it's not google's fault.

AnonD-512884, 09 Mar 2016Or, you could root your phone, flash a custom rom and have ... moreTrue, but the average consumer shouldn't have to worry about doing this. OEM should support the products longer instead of releasing the almost the exact same phone a year later with an up to date version of Android.

AnonD-512884, 09 Mar 2016Or, you could root your phone, flash a custom rom and have ... moreSorry, but why should I be doing the hard work? If the company doesn't want to support their product, then either I buy something else, or I demand low price so I can replace my phone more frequently.

AnonD-428442, 09 Mar 2016Microsoft will still push security updates for Windows 7 un... moreOr, you could root your phone, flash a custom rom and have your device support extended to another couple of years until your specs become outdated. That is the way Android power users who want to make things last as long as possible do in order to maximise the investment of buying a flagship device. I have a HTC One M8 and I converted it into a GPE device by flashing a RUU file and now, I get all the support I want. Latest version, of Android i.e. Marshmallow as soon as it came out. I will definetely be getting Android N.

Your typical Android OEM won't even push next months Android security update.
Solution is to not overpay for Android phones. Just buy a $200 phone, and replace it every year.

I think Google should stop with the new Android OS announcements, and just do a silent update on Nexus phones ala Chrome on the desktop. Seriously, there's no point. Android N is coming and M is at 2.3%? And that's not even counting the monthly security updates.
Also big reason to not pay more than $200 - $300 tops for a non Nexus phone. You are pretty much need to replace it on a yearly basis, if not sooner than that since majority of OEMs do not care about the monthly security updates.

And you say, oh no, they must be lying, I wont do it. Then at the end of the day, you dont get a performance increase because of your own personal paranoia? That's smart. So smart infact, that I no longer need to waste time taking this conversation any further. You clearly know it all right?

AnonD-362866, 09 Mar 2016Hahahahaha based on what? Your personal opinion? Hahahahaha... moreOk, I just spoke my own experience with an idevice (ipad air). It was perfectly fine with IOS 7 (kitkat level stable). Without knowing iCompany's tactics, I upgraded to IOS 8.x versions and it is unstable (worser than lollipop level instabilities - random reboots) ever since. After that, I came to know about ifruit's tactics. So scared of upgrading (or is it downgrading?) to IOS 9.x so far.
I might try IOS 9.2 one day and see the results for myself whether the ifruit company has changed its tactics with respect to old devices. Or I might not even try and be stuck with known IOS 8 instabilities, instead of unknown devils in IOS 9.x.

they are all the same, the latest and greatest has more or less the same feature as one of the first ones, gingerbread or what was it, so why all this hype for yet another android version, they all look the same and work the same, i had all the same apps on gingerbread that i have now

People just don't use logic anymore and just follow the herd about update update update even though their older device is working perfectly. My Note 4 is working very well with 5.1.1 and will update whenever marshmallow is released, but no winning about no update no update bla bla bla
