08 March, 2016
While that's happening, all the earlier versions of Google's mobile OS are dropping.

Not sure if growing number of newer OS' means that brands are rolling out the updates, or people just upgrading their phones. Nevertheless I'm not sure if I care that much about newest OS, rather older version with decent security updates.

THK, 08 Mar 2016KitKat and anything above is useless without root + SD card... moreWhy? I have neither of the things you mention and marshmallow works perfectly for me. Far from useless.

Marshmallow has just crossed 2% mark and yet Android N is coming.
Jelly Bean will celebrate 4'th birthday this year and still has 22.3 % share.
Two year old kit-kat has over 34 %.

IF there was hall of shame, i think they should reserve a place for Google as "Most Careless Company ".

90% of android devices have security bug, which is unpatched and most of them is not going to receive that patch.

That's couldn't happen, if Android had centralised update system.

Network providers also slow down the update, just to make sure it'll work properly with the network. I'm also waiting for G Flex 2 update, but maybe I'll get a different phone sooner, if something will get my attention.

I don't like loliloop, it's to slow and causes app crashes due to low memory 1gb (everyone who states that 1gb (baisically it's the region of 4-8gb on pc market (where 128gb is the limit for ddr4 i think without going to xeon cpus) is out of date should hit a brick with their head). Am on 4.4.4 jan 1 patch and like the smoothness. Hope the next version of android will bring back the smoothness of kk and be rid of all the extra googleware that i do not use and is sucking my cpu and in return battery life,

I think most importantly is to provide security updates for devices at least KitKat and later

The problem in this android statistics is that for 1 updated to marshmallow (or sold) high end phone there are manufacturers who still sell 10 devices in the same time on KitKat

if brands speed up updates from theyr devices i guarantee the share of Marshmallow will be bigger...but the brands are too slow give the updates! look... Android 6.0 anouced in last November...five months have pass and some of high end devices from last year even dont get it!

Waiting for my G Flex2 to get it...

Anonymous, 08 Mar 2016It's good to see that Jelly Bean is still very popular.Sure it is. People still keeps phone in hand from 2012-2013 which has the latest update to jelly bean. Including me, my official release is at jelly bean, but I can easily flash marshmallow custom ROM, but lollipop and marshmallow is hardware hungry, and kitkat works the best on my old device. So yeah. Kitkat > Marshmallow > Lollipop.
