Sony Ericsson working on a 5-inch QWERTY-packing Android tablet?

4 June, 2010
Are Android-powered 5-inch phone tablets on the rise? Seems so, especially after the Dell Streak just launched in the UK. Sony Ericsson is also (rumored to be) getting into that game with a 5-inch Android...

HTC made only the X1, because HTC has experience with Windows Mobile, and back then SE didn't have.

Apple releases iphone it becomes successfull now every other company envy apple and start releasing their own touch screen devices which fail. The same case on the ipad, they release their tablet now every company is starting to take tablets more seriously. Apple is the true innovative company in this mobile devices industry.

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2010Are sony devices rebranded HTC devices like the X1 ?No SE devices are not branded HTC devices. Let me explain you few things.

Only in case of X1 SEMC hired HTC to get the manufacturing done, all design and R&D was done by SEMC, in such case it is called that HTC is ODM and SE is OEM.

When SE does all on it's own that is also manufacturing ODM and OEM both are same for that company.

Reason why X1 was manufactured by HTC because SE did some collaboration with them as it was winmo devices and they were doing it first time so they thought of doing it thru them, there is nothing wrong in that, every company does that.

after bitter experience with HTC they never gonna tie up with HTC and now all devices are done by SEMC by them 100%.

They didn't invent the touch screen technology as people seem to think. Yes, they were among the first (NOT THE VERY FIRST) to use it. PDAs and tablet share the same philosophy but are not one and the same thing.

HP were the first with a tablet which as I mentioned was a laptop, Apple just took over from that with the Ipad.

I actually like Apple's laptops and do have a Mac by the way. I also think they did revolutionise the touch screen phones with their excellent touch UI but they are not the be all and end all.

I dont care for apple personally, i find them a complete tribute to the excess, as nothing they have cant be done for cheaper, BUT that doesnt change the fact that yes they were a forerunner in the touchscreen world, they just happened to take a big break from it.

The tablet has been around for longer than the Ipad in the form of laptop convertible touch screen tablet, Apple just took it and removed the keyboard and voila, we have the now popular Ipad.

Do your research more and find out who invented the tablet.

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2010thank you, firedragon. At least those real touchscreen PCs ... moreYou are welcome, and yes those are truely good replacement of pc if user is not into much heavy stuffs like me.

However while I am user of heavy (heavy) applications, I have been looking for something handheld with enough horsepower to do some productive task that I need to do in the tablet form. This desire has not started recently but its been with me for years now and I have been looking for this and for this I can tell you those tablets have a good market. They were not among us before because of the hardware was not good enough.

Having said that, I don't consider Apple at all to do any magical work in it. As the hardware roll out and people see a suitable OS that can run over it, they begin to experiment to bring something "useful", not as useful as complete PC but at least something that can be more than a smartphone.

What Apple did is put a huge screen to their mobilephone and pair it with overclocked processor so anything that will come as tablet will already be ahead of this expensive toy.

I want the REAL Tablet PC (convertable touchscreen laptop) to stand up (aka Core i7, 3GB RAM, Windows 7 touchscreen edition, bluray player, HDMI, few USB ports/memory card slots, 3G/4G connectivity, 10inch screen,... )

                                    Is that so difficult?
