The price doesn't consern us true Apple users.
I already paid for my 64Gb iPad and my new 2010 MacBook Pro.
I'll take two please. Black one now and a white one when available - 32 Gb each please.
Thanks.

32GB - 16GB = US$100
Yes, of course the flash module within the phone is not worth an extra $100 (or EUR110 outright) per say, but again that is not the point of the price difference.
It's about stock and price balancing and meeting customer demand.
32GB is too much for some, so why spend the extra $100.
Offering 32GB for say only $51 more, making it $249 doesn't make enough of a difference and for "only" $50 more you'll get "twice" the value. (See the psychology here? Value sells over price.)
This scenario would leave the 16GB version overstocked and therefore would cause the price to drop VERY QUICKLY.
So, you gotta get it just right - and people think twice about $100 than $50.
Just like offering leather seats and extras too cheaply in a car would not increase it's value, but decrease it rather.

I think you're all missing the point... just a bit.
It makes no sense to "incentivise" buying an iPhone outright over signing up a new plan with a network operator. If you want to buy it from Apple directly, the price is as they say: EUR 740. But you haven't committed and are free to take it to whatever operator you want, whenever you want. Ah, the price of freedom...
If you can't afford that - go on a plan! That's what they are there for! And as you need some kind of credit for everyday use anyway, you may as well bite the bullet and do it.
So to make it clear: If you have the dosh, buy it because it doesn't matter.
If you strapped for cash: Sign up for 24 months, or forget about the iPhone altogether and stop complaining you're not getting a fair go.
There's a choice for everyone here.

why mock Samsung - Samsung makes the processors for all iphones including the new iphone4. aren't the screens for the ipad from LG??
from first hand experience the battery life is god-awful, whilst the UI is one ofthe best, but the apps!!!!! who needs 250,000apps for what?!!??!
this product is highly overpriced for the spec but people are under the belief they belong to an elite when they own one.
they are a number of phones that out spec this phone, personally speaking if apple offered the iphone4 for free on a £20 contract i still wouldn't have it over its rivals.

I do think that the handset is very pricey for few new features, many of which more affordable handsets can already offer.
Yet again Apple are overpricing their products due to their 'stylish' popularity. I'll stick with my HTC thanks!

apple, 15 Jun 2010johnny you obvs dont have a very good job or the fuends to ... moreNot enough funds? Are you joking? It is not about the bare price tag, but about the usefulness of the item you spent for...
So what is that feature of iPhone that justifies the 2x price compared to other alternatives? Use the compare tool of this very site if you want. Also i do not think the difference of 16 GB in memory costs 110 euro.
the most "diplomatic" word i can use for this case is that Apple once again ABUSE their customers.

This is actually cheap i expected this device to go out on sale at nothing less than 700€ those who are complaining that it expensive well then apple didnt target you type of users. The iphone is strongly becoming as a fashion/stylish mobile device and not just a regular smartphone. Its somewhere in between the nokia 8800 and the vertu phones and its interesting to see how successfull it has become competing strongly in the market with phones with almost half its price and twice its feature set.

Kostas, 15 Jun 2010All time classic Apple.They sell coal for gold.Ok there is ... moreObviously you have never used an Amoled phone... Can't wait to get rid of mine for one of these, one hit of sunlight and I can't see a thing. Ok if you live in England, but not in Australia. Fortunately for us too, we have an over saturated market, with a large number of carriers all making a lot of money off a small market because we love our phones over here, so because of competition and demand I expect the iPhone to once again be heavily subsidised by the carriers :) As a current Android user and a previous iPhone user, I can't wait to get back to an iPhone, Android just isn't as fluid, refined and the app store is limited in comparison. Going to jump back on the iPhone bandwagon.

the iPhone4 may be:
* relatively low spec.
* relatively VERY EXPENSIVE.
but it's Apple, and I'm a sucker for Apple products! BUT, as much as I support Apple, the iPad was a RIDICULOUS idea...
