First of all i want to say that i was a BIG Nokia and Symbian fan.
I have developed in the past as a hobby free S60 and S90 Symbyan themes that were downloaded over 800 milion times!
BUT WM is nowhere near Android.
I will tell you MY opinion why:
I HATE that tile - list menu. Yes its cool, but after a while it becomes sooo boring! Give the people choices to switch to different effects. (Big icons, small icons, huge icons, just text, different fonts and colors, different launchers, live wallpapers etc)
What i love about android is CUSTOMIZATION. WM is just like that crappy ios. STOCK.
I absolutely hate stock things! If you are a grey sheep that likes stock, than good for you. I'm on a whole different level and i tweak and change almost every visual element that i can in android. In wm all you can change is the wallpaper. Too damn restricted!
Of course you will never get lags if the visual elements are ALWAYS the same and their size is of just a few kb.
In android i can change so many things i dont have the time to name all of them: boot logo, boot animation and sound, nav buttons, keyboard, status bar elements, system settings, DPI resolution, fonts, touch effects, transparency, set gif images as icons or widgets etc etc.
If you know something about computers, you will know those things require more resources to render and android copes with all those changes and performs like a champion.
If you root your phone and you have a brain, you can even make your own android os, with just the apps that you want!
And i didn't even got into the technical stuf.
WM app store is a joke - what's the point if there are only a few apps and most of them have bugs?
Don't get me wrong, i love Windows on a PC and i wouldn't change it with Linux or iOS for nothing in the world. But on a smartphone, android is the king.
If a Lumia (I admit l like the design on some of them but the specs are nowhere near android flagships) would run the real windows and I could open and use Photoshop and other programs, i would throw away my android phone.
In the end, everyone is free to choose what they want. I choose customization and diversity over dull and stock.
WM is for people with low to no technical skills that just need to sms and phone people. In other words it's a grandma's phone.
I know it hurts but it's the truth! Deal with it and go study some programming or something..
Peace!

ColOko, 22 Apr 2016 Don't criticize, be open minded and pick up a 'windows 10 ... moreI've had numerous Windows phones and I actually prefer the Windows Phone 8.1 UI to the Mobile 10 UI. I think it's a huge step backwards. I was a big proponent for Windows Phone previously but after the Nokia acquisition they really dropped the ball. It was about two years or so with absolutely no flagship device. Finally said enough was enough and went back to Android.

I think it's by far the best concept for start screen. Everything is right there with no need to open apps.
MS came too late with OS. People get used to Android and iOS and very few of them is willing to change OS. Other thing, MS always make compromises and people don't loke that. E.g. if they're making high end phone, it should look like high end phone!
I am using Lumia 735 wich works perfect with W10. Don't use phone for games, don't use Snapchat and Fb so I'm satisfies. But I understand people want to have everything and MS is not providing them what they want.

Don't criticize, be open minded and pick up a 'windows 10 mobile powered device' for use. With the latest os update, I can guarantee a little satisfaction with the os tho you'll have to make do with the limited app selection. But it's beautiful I tell you!

DealBreaker, 22 Apr 2016it doesn't have to be hundred thousand ...if I use 10 and I... moreI, for one, use my phone to work with a lot of emails, attachments, spreadsheets, word documents, OneDrive, OneNote, etc. and I need my phone to run top notch (i.e. no app crashes, no restarts) and I also need to multitask between all of these constantly. Besides this, I can't be bothered with random security risks that Android is facing.
Then there's the camera - which needs to be high quality and to have full manual control of it.
And last but not least, I need meaningful updates at a glance on what's going on, and Windows tiles + Glance screen offer just that. This is the most advanced UI on the market and Google knows that, as they've started copying it when they've introduced their "Material Design" stuff to Android.
Apart from photo and video editing apps, a few games, and music streaming apps, I don't need anything else.

Hardly a surprise, considering the lack of customization, adequate apps, updates for them, the general unattractive square UI with lack of colors and their ridiculously underpowered budget devices. Their OS is doomed and they just can't accept it like Blackberry did.

They have pretty much pivoted away from Windows 8.1 company wide, but Windows 10 mobile wasn't ready and in many way still isn't ready to pick up where Windows 8.1 left off.
Microsoft's continued willingness to burn their precious generation with each new rewrite of mobile doesn't do much to maintain trust among other users. I hopes they figure things out soon as the mobile market is in desperate need of viable competitors......

DealBreaker, 22 Apr 2016I begin to think that people who are buying Windows Phones ... moreI think you need to catch up - Lumia 950 far classier than Android - and don't pull the lack of apps - just how many hundred thousand do you have on your phone. My phone syncs right to my laptop and most businesses here use windows so another bonus. Android is for the masses who think they're being trendy but actually just call or text thy're mates, play some music walking to work or play games. As for Apple users they would carry a tin opener if i had the apple loggo on it.
