The camera on this phone is by far the best the market has ever seen. If it's not plagued with the normal Nokia issues then it shouldn't be a half bad phone. Just shame it runs Symbian, not my preference of OS.

r 3 b 3 l, 09 Jul 2010Every nokia symbian smartphone has tabbed browsing. Only wi... moreits not tabbed browsing when you can open a pop-up.
you cant type the adress manually in the pop up.
So you really cant visit more than one page at the time.

Of what Ive seen on the browser for Symbian^3 Ive never seen the option to open a new tab or new window, or whatever.
So Im a bit worried there. Cause this pop-up thing does not cut it for me. Sure you can get the Opera browser, but then there is no flash support, and Ive heard they are not working to hard on implementing flash support either.

Jay, 08 Jul 2010I totally agree with you on all points, that point I am try... moreWell.
You expect too much from nokia.
Android hasnt really brought anything special to the game, its just maturing.
iOS, the same. When the app-store arrived, it had a success that no one had had before with their appstores. But other than that, iOS is just maturing.
Symbian has been mature for a long time. But it does not have a lot of fancy effects. And that is not the point of symbian.

You have to look at devices for what they are.
iPhone 4, a device with a good display.
Evo 4G, a device with speedy connection.
Samsung Galaxy S, a device with a good display.
Non of them really brings anything new to the table.
And then you have the N8, a good camera, and that is the N8s strong point.

                            Is the camera enough?
Not for the american market, its probably not. Nokia isnt really trying to hard over there.
Outside of america, it fight against HTC desire, iphone 4, samsung galaxy S. It will never be a match for iPhone 4. But it sure can compete with the others.

And I think nokia is picking up speed.
Its like with a sports team... every once in a while, they have to regroup, change tactics to evolve.
I think nokia were caught of guard. I think they thought that touchscreen mobile were further in the future. But then LG, Apple and Samsng had the same thought, at the same time, that the market is ready for touchscreen mobiles (even without apple, the market would by now be flooded with touchscreen devices). And Nokia didnt really have a touchscreen OS. But now i think they do have the sight set for the touchscreen market. And the N8 is not the end product of that new goal. Its just a good device, but its not the device that is the end result of the last years development.

Later this year, we can look forward to the first MeeGo mobile.
MeeGo brings something new to the table. A full blown computer OS, running on several of kinds of hardware. We will se tablets, netbooks, and mobiles. All with the same OS.
Will it change the way you think of a mobile?
It might, it has the potential. Imagine docking a mobile and using it as a full blown computer. HDMI and Bluetooth keyboard/mouse is all you need. Imagine a company looking for a new service provider, realising that with MeeGo on their terminals, all terminals dont have to be computers, some might just be a mobile. And some users that had to have a portable computer in the past, could now do the same with just a mobile.
That is a new way to think of a mobile.

But otherwise as far as innovation goes... no one is really doing anything special. its all just small evolutionary steps.

And the N8 is not a leap for Nokia.
Its actually only a small step, and should be considered as such.
And still you get a good camera, USB on the go, and bt mouse compatibility and HDMI port, so you should be able to connect it to your TV for some video-watching and some surfing. But all this is actually small steps. its not reinventing the wheel.
The N8 is just another device!
Nokia isnt really in that big of a crisis that they have to make a product that everyone wants. They only have to be a fair competitor for HTC, SE, Samsung, Motorola, LG products. And it is. Its a fair competitor for the iPhone as well, but Apple has really gotten the attention of media, and thus an unfair advantage. iPhone is not an over all a better device. It has some strong point, and some weak points, some really weak... just like other devices.

You have to see the N8 for what it is.
Nokia does not live or die by the N8... so if you dont buy it, maybe next time you will get a Nokia. they wont be gone.

Personlay I've had quite a few probems with nokia devices, and their repair service partner here in Sweden, so I dont think my next device will be a Nokia.
But the reason is not the OS. Its good, and it does real multitasking. Most apps I need are avalible. You dont need 200 000 to chose from. It looks a bit boring but is kind on ram and CPU therefor, but with a new theme, and for touchscreen devices you can get the SPB Mobile shell. And then it looks like most other OSes out there. They have sports-tracker, and you can get the heart rate monitor for it, now. On the other hand Sports-tracker is looking to expand, perhaps their goal is set on android and iOS. The browser has support for flash lite, and in newer symbian you will get flash 10.1. The thing that I feel i missing from Symbian is tabbed browsing with flash support. Opera seem not to want to add support for flash in their browser. So if someone is looking for the web experience, its Android 2.2 or MeeGo. Other than that Symbian is a good OS. And its nice to see it on all kind of devices.
You will soon see nokia pushing a bunch of tochscreen smartphones, N8 is just in the first wave.

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2010well...the satio sucked...omnia hd was great after that cus... moreBoth Satio and Omnia HD have had ther problems.... but low memory was hardly a problem with them.

Well sure, they should have trown some more RAM in there... or perhaps they go the N900 way and use vitual RAM, it seemed to work pretty well. But the question is, will it be a bir problem? on N97 it was. But in this device I think most people will never experience that memory message... Android uses more RAM, so on a device with 256MB of ram, you have less free, than with a symbian device with 256MB.

                                    Symbian^3 supports QT.
So we should start seeing some more apps.
And if you want to change the look, SPB mobile shell for Symbian should be adopted for Symbian^3 quite quickly.

The one thing that bother me most about this device, is that it does not seem to have tabbed browsing. And I dont think you can do the n900 variant and open several of browsers.
But I could be wrong, I havent seen enough demos of it.

And if youre looking for the coolest device. I would hold of 'til the holiday season. the first MeeGo device is planned to come out in Q4. And we will se some more phones from HTC and Motorola.
And then there is the rumor of the iPhone 4G.

If youre going to buy a device soon, and the camera isnt the most important feature. Well then I would go for the Desire, with Android 2.2 update sometime in Q3 begining of Q4, you should get a really fast browser. 720p recording update should be near as well. And you have the XDA support.

[deleted post]These is all crap you are saying even before releasing Symbian 3. Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-review.com has prototype of N8 and althoug he is criticized N8 in early preview, he is happy with speed and performance of N8. As per his preview, Symbian 3 is nearly 180% faster than older version of OS and matches the performance of most Android phones. It just proves Symbian is low resourse OS and 1Ghz CPU is not needed for it. And yes, it does play flash well unlike your iCrap.
