All it means is people buying these phones are paying a huge premium for commodity RAM and are paying much more money for fewer features.

Zune, 05 May 2016Well, you actually made a mistake, in Korea, iPhone actuall... moreI did not do any deep research on sales and definitely not by countries but have been to seoul and i see most koreans use samsungs. I got to admit that they could have been using a Galaxy A or E or J series since it looks very similiar to galaxy S. And you can clearly tell that iphone users in seoul are actually tourists from hk, china, us, etc.

Apple is not all that po... moreNot just US, Iphone is the most popular smartphone where ever people have cash to buy more premium handsets than low and mid range, except in korea, which is one of the rare technolgical advanced country to choose samsung flagship over apple iphones. Of course samsung sells more smartphone in volume than apple, but if you only include smartphone costing 500$+, apple has like 230 millions and samsung has around 50 millions. FYI, ASP for apple is around 600$ and samsung about 200$. Since you talk about nokia, just like them, most of Samsung sales are in the mid and low range. Samsung's market share is very impressive, since it's dominating all Android OEMs just like how Nokia did back in the days. But there's absolutely no comparison with apple in terms of profits and flagship sales.

Anonymous, 04 May 2016S7 is the same price as the 6SI wanted new phone. My mobile career company offered me galaxy s7 and iPhone 6 for almost same price. Galaxy was 50 dollars more expensive.
6s was couple hundreds dollars more expensive than galaxy s7.
I like iphone's but nowadays their price isn't competitive anymore in the market.

AnonD-356282, 04 May 2016Audiophiles should already be using lighting-connector head... moreYou don't seem to understand how audio works, the last part of it is ALWAYS without a single exception, analog. Speakers don't take digital audio straight on them, the DAC quality is what will make the difference before the speakers, and this includes all the analog low pass, high pass and possibly amplification. You're just moving the DAC and analog parts outside of the phone, with no advantage at all. The DACs on iPhones is already of great quality, obviously could be better, but I can bet very few, if any, lighting port headphone amplifiers are any better.
Audio and the audiophile community is filled with myths and beliefs, which makes many products "designed by audiophiles for audiophiles" actually worse than normal products, SET amplifiers are one great example, and all the "valve is better" talk (not referring to valve distortions on guitars).
The analog carrying cables introduce no significant, let alone audible distortion on the signal, moving the DAC and all the needed parts to the headphones just brings the digital noise closer to the sensitive parts and add power waste on converters, in the end a lighting port headphone could be way worse, not even considering the difference between these products and the normal 3.5mm studio grade monitors you can get.

Apple is not all that popular outside of US. What drives Apple sales, is an US market and a product placement in all the entertainment industry (Hollywood has a huge influence on sales of any product, especially in the domestic market). I'm not a Samsung fan, but Apple is far behind Samsung's popularity (end of 2015 reports - 320 millions of units shipped from Samsung, compared to 230 millions from Apple). This is a huge gap. They still remain popular, because of the huge domestic market. Outside of it, their sales numbers crumble year by year, with brands like Huawei and Xiaomi slowly catching up to the 2nd place. So yes, iPhone is a trend thing, fueled by its domestic market and good advertisement, but it's hardly a "premium feel", that it used to be years ago. Most companies caught up with them, while Apple stopped moving forward (flashback from Nokia's history?).

No point using converter, if the analogue is on the other end anyway. I'm concerned, that this flat audio connector (be it lightning or USB) won't have enough sturdiness to withstand the forces in some pockets.
