Agree with article. I'm sure whatever prime data apple has on their complaints is nothing compared to the real amount of dissatisfied customers. Though true for any company, a bad move by Apple to try and deceive people like that.
I'd like to think that every review of the iphone should be affected, either score less in performance or less in appeal because i'm sure those iphone bumpers look dumb.

I think the best iphone 4 story yet was that of Whoppy Goldeberg in a live tv interview saying how she 'murdered' her 'dam' iphone 4 by throwing out the window of her car coz of no reception,she missed out on several calls

Reason why people are pissed is that after all the postulation about users 'holding it wrong' and software algorithms being incorrect is that they are finally rectifying an issue that should've been fixed FROM THE START by saying that they love their users and offering free cases or a waived restocking fee.
Customers are customers, without customers a company goes bust. Treating your customers as fools is idiotic.
As for those comparing Apple to Nokias: if a Nokia has a fault, it is bearable since it costs HALF AS MUCH

GSMArena should do their own test to see signal attenuation on different devices and compare them to the Iphone 4. Specially a Nokia device like a 5800! which Steve conveniently missed out!
That would be a interesting article. If it did not get them in trouble with Apple that is!

The question is. Just how many thousands of more brand new faulty handsets still stocked across the country are waiting to be bought & to dissapoint applefans. HAHA! HAHA!
I'm sorry I'm being too hard on poor applefans but no matter what we say they still draw themselves into the Lions den where it won't do you no good. No one ever listens to us. bricked, 16 Jul 2010I suppose the N97's scratching camera lens was fixed with F... moreNo NO.. Apparently only apple has the technology to fix hardware flaws using firmware updates.
As for N97's scratching camera lens, it was fixed in successive batches and the older ones could be fixed relevantly cheaply.
There was nothing originally wrong with the N900 usb port. It was just a week spot that easily broke if you dropped the phone hard (Like the whole of the Iphone 4 actually!!). Anyway, Nokia can quick solder it back for you.
In a way, Yes, the first people who buy Nokia smartphone are beta testers but thats no problem because they only have minor bugs and always have crystal clear call quality and have no trouble holding calls.
Still once problems are fixed, Nokia quickly releases firmware updates to us and thats that!

i must say well done to GSMARENA for telling the apple conference for what it is and how apple are conning people,and judging from other online phone sites responses Apples attempt to cover this issue isnt going well with them either. Well done to Gsm though

I don't exactly want to comment on who's right or who's wrong.
But, if I was in Steve Jobs' shoes, I would have recalled just to finish the tension & earn reputation.
You can NOT earn reputation by saying "we love our users".
It's a damn one time loss. Is it too much to ask?
I remember BMW recalling their tourer motorcycles, and Honda recalling their VFR 1200, due to engine problems, and those companies are having a great reputation all this time.
And if he says that "only 0.5%" users have this problem because only 0.5% called them, then why doesn't he announce an optional recall?
Then Jobs'll see the real picture, whether its 0.5% or more than that...

This really is a first class farce.
It does Apple's reputation no good whatsoever, I'm glad for one that I didn't go down the Iphone route, with so many omissions from the specification (No BT file transfers, No Radio etc) then to release it with duff soft/firmware!
If I had gone down the Iphone route then I think I'd be looking for a refund, because of this farcical event, I don't want a phone that's not 100%, Nokia please note too!
I'm happy with the HTC Desire & its Android OS for the time being, yes it has its foibles but they're few & far between.

-they admit there are issues - Yeah right, first blame the users, then the Software and now only admitted it cause they every outsmarted..
-they came out with a software update in 22days( take note nokia )!!!!! - Why? Nokia somtimes even has firmware updates before their devices hit the market, you must mean Se.
-they are offering free cases to anyone affected- Thats an insult both ways, Apple couldn't make a phone and the users have to rely on a piece of rubber to make they 1000$ phones work.
How many times have the 3gs firmware been updated??
How many times have Nokia updated the firmware of their 5800?? Not because it had bug, Nokia keeps giving us new features.

so no hardware fix,no software fix,just take your dam bumper case and cover the issue up,its okay because at the end of the day apple really 'loves you' and so does steve. A speech desgined to deflect any attention to rival manufacturers and fool suspectible fanboys at the same time. Steve by the way showed everyone at the conference that there is no problem and that he holds his iphone 4 in the death grip with no signal loss....then why did he ratherly smugly tell everyone else that they're 'holding it wrong' when holding it that way?!

Any bugs on Nokia's are software related because unlike the iOS, Symbian is very complex and powerful. But they are always fixed with quick firmware updates...

I use a htc desire and it always drops calls when I hold it a certain way , that's life ,I just hold it differently !
I have tried 7 different iPhone 4's and have not been able to get it to drop calls , ? So guess not everyone is affected , and it has been blown out of proportion , I sell phones all day everyday and iPhones and blackberries,are the two most reliable handsets available , the worst you ask ? ....NOKIA ,SONY ERICSSON, and LG no end of problems ! What do they do about the issues their handsets have ? ....oh yes they release a new model for you to buy ,
Apple make software updates a regular thing because they value you're custom, if this was another company it would have been a non issue , and they wouldn't have cared less about trying to sort it out.
So let's see some positives
-they admit there are issues
-they came out with a software update in 22days( take note nokia )!!!!!
-they are offering free cases to anyone affected
-they held a conference to show they aren't brushing it under the carpet , even though 98.3% of iPhone 4 users are unaffected by so called issue .
So let's see how other manufactures compare to apple when resolving issues !

This is expected if you studied the history of Apple as a company. They are not an engineering powerhouse, even their much-hyped product designs, unknown to their ardent fanb0is, is outsourced to third-party industrial design outfits like Frog. Apple is only good at marketing with their Reality Distortion Field©®, with a big help from the largely-ignorant mainstream US media which always likes to champion one of their own companies.
