the best smartphone is the nokia n900.
you could hold it anyway you like & you will never have any problems.
the iphone 4 is also a good smartphone but for it to work the way you like, you need to buy many apps.
with the n900 all you need to do is go on the web & you are good.

Haha... Apple forum is funny! This is the discussion about the faulty signal bar software that fooled user for 3 years thinking they hade better reception. And Apple releasing a statement that they calculated the signal bar formula wrong for 4 years!? And how the signal bar software update is gonna fix hardware issue.
"Cool, so now the signal strength indicators will more accurately display the hardware error!"
"I love how Apple thinks its customers are idiots. So we are to believe that Apple has not figured this out after 4 years of making a handset?"
"So instead of going from 5 to 3 bars it's gonna go from 3 to 1. Great"
"At least they have moved from the "nothing to see here, move along" PR stance"
"Apple is making a fool of themselves to anyone with half a brain, unfortunately that still leaves legions to support them"
"what a load of bullocks
gr8 work apple keep treating customers as ****"
"Wow, this is incredibly disgusting"
"Apple are full of s**t..."
"This statement is as insulting as it is inaccurate"
"TOTAL BS!!! I bet non iPhone phones will get more bars in the same area"
And this is just from the first two pages of Apple members forum. At least they are being honest on Apple forum unlike the nitwits iApples walking around with blind sticks on GSMarena.

People, I think this chatting is of no use... you are just throwing things at each other, without listening to the things that people say. I see people (with proof) that iPhone has many flaws, and I see people (also with proof) that the iPhone is a great phone. But repeating everything a dozen times, is not the way to go if you want to come to an agreement. (and I think that's why we should talk about it in here.)
And sorry to say... but some here really say things, that are not allowed in a good conversation!

Welcome to the world of tech!
don't you just love it i do.
Yes every company can make a mistake, but its the way you deal with it what counts and from what i can see, Apple are not playing fair hiding the facts.
In not going to laugh to much about it, as its just sad for a company who thinks their customer orientated, when quite clearly there are not.

That's what I do when Bums fall in line at my doorstep.. If you think Apple cares for you by giving away bumper cases, consider yourself Ignorant. It's their LAST attempt to keep the iPhone4 alive. fyi, NO "profit company" will ever care for any customer. They care about your money. Period.

Are you trying to say that dropped calls only started happening in 2007 when the first iPhone was introduced?
Your long rant is worthless, you have nothing to back it up apart from anecdotes from people who don't even own iPhones.

100% agree
Steve basically uncovered the truth about the other phone markers hiding there signal issues, because it took a week or so to make the video presentation, gave us a free case to rub in what he's found.

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2010Didn't you hear Steve said. They are giving away bumper ca... moreDidn't Steve Jobs say that his antenna design was "revolutionary", & "awesome", & "magical"?
If it so great...then just a simple question:....why all the fuss over dropped calls.
Let me spell it out for those that might be a little slower than the rest. What does it matter if Jobs is able to replicate the fact that other mobile phones might lose signal bars when gripped tightly?....those devices in question do not have a widespread or even a somewhat high number of dropped calls.
The main issue with the iPhone4 is not only the fact that the bars drop graphically when held in a normal way, (or at least the way I have always held a mobile), but the bars will drop all the way & then the iPhone4 reverts to "searching for service" until you hold the iPhone4 in Apple's approved fashion.
Also, for those who proclaim, "Well, MY iPhone4 doesn't have any signal issues". Try this. Go to an area that is on your mobile providers "fringe" & notorious for weak signals, & then try & make some calls & see what happens.
I am not just spewing a bunch of BS here either. I live in the USA & have AT&T as my service provider. Like I have stated in other posts, I had an iPhone 3G for quite some time, so I wanted to actually try out the iPhone4. My friend & I went to the AT&T store to both get out iPhone4 upgrade. We tried the iPhone4 in the AT&T store, but as I would imagine, the AT&T store does most certainly have excellent coverage, & we thought we were safe with no faulty HW on our iPhone4's.
However, once we got out & about the city, & tried to make calls, the signal would drop to zero bars, & revert to "searching for service" much more often than not. I myself had 9 dropped calls in a 6 hour period before I returned my iPhone4 the same day.
Stop pretending that this isn't an issue & just because some multi-billionaire (who could really give a crap & care less about you) threw some cheap "Made in China" rubber bumpers for a $700.00 mobile is some sort of hero & consumer advocate.
If you actually look up to a greedy corporate crook like Jobs, who does nothing but juice the consumer for every penny on over-priced accessories, apps, & proprietary SW, then you are troubled.
It's a little ironic that Jobs pretends to do everything he can for his consumers like handing out some meager refreshments at a launch, but when the consumer needs Apple to fix one of their screw ups, Apple calls into question not only your validity, but the validity of other mobile manufacturers who have absolutely nothing to do with Apple ignoring the fact that their aerial antenna design was an epic failure, & even told so in advance by their engineers. All Jobs cared about was getting into your wallet.
