Apple gets all defensive, free iPhone 4 cases for everyone

16 July, 2010
Apple just finished off its press conference dedicated on the iPhone 4 reception issues leaving us quite puzzled, to say the least. At one point Steve Jobs was saying that every phone has a weak spot, then he...

The n97 has the most complaints. They lag and freeze like there's no tomorrow. The iphone still offers the best user expwrience. You're just jealous because it's so successful. Iphone is the best. It sold over 3 millions units in 3 weeks.

1.7% return rate this isn't a major issue.

All phones have the same issues as has been proven on thousands of YouTube clips.

All of a sudden everyone thinks they are an antenna expert and just keep spouting the same rubbish.

Didn't you watch the presscon? It showed other phones suffering from a signal drop as well when held the wrong way. So it's not just the iphone4, and it doesn't mean that it is faulty.

it's all too funny to see how far people are taking this discussion, but it's also sad...I for one have never and would never use an iphone just because of what it is:cheap parts with a pretty software all sold at an exagerated price. The iphone for me is forever associated with one of their many farting apps.it's not that the iphone is a bad phone or anything, but when you think about it, for all the fuss and the money customers pay, one would expect only the best of bits and pieces.
In essence, apple only manufactures the software.all the bits and pieces are made by other companies... Why not just pay to use the license for a good aerial from a seasoned company? Besides, the original iphone also had problems with the aerial in that it couldn't pass sar safety standards...they had to redesign the aerial back then too.i wouldn't mind owning a phone that once in while dropped a few calls...if i got it free on a contract, but this is a premium product with marketing to back it up and all the works.i don't remember any e series phones dropping a call, or the communicator series, or SE P-series,no htc has that problem and i heard nothing bad about rim either.i've owned lots of phones, the cheapest of which was a nokia 1110 and that didn't have any problems.
Anyway, to sum it up, here's how i see this faulty iphone thing:apple users are used to seeing a new toy from their favorite brand each year.this means that a new iphone had to be made in a short time without proper time to test it.in the end, the apple team did manage to bring the world a revolution with the display.too bad they failed at something so simple and cheap as an aerial or a proximity senzor...

I saw a few people with an iPhone4 and I asked them to show me!
Do you all have proof that it affects EVERY phone? No... only a theory that it would be a hardware problem, and yes it is... for a few of them!! No factory is perfect!! Believe me...

[deleted post]P%nm.... you are always on every iPhone related topic, fighting about how the iPhone is flawless and the best. Seriously, I'm also an iPhone user but I don't see how this design flaw can affect only a few iPhone 4s. It's a design flaw, each iPhone 4 has the same design, each iPhone 4 has the same flaw. Also, don't go asking people for their qualifications with regards to antennas when we all know that you don't have any as well (I can bet you on this one).

[deleted post]And what proof do you have that it doesn't happen in all iPhone4's? Let me guess. Because Jobs said so? Dont be so naive, the hardware is faulty & there is absolutely no other explanation.

Did steve n0b i meant jobs start to give away free case for the last 3 gen iphone? No.... he didnt give these case away because he want to look after his loyal customers. IT'S BECAUSE THE PRODUCT HAS SEVERAL FLAWS!... 2million free case x £1 = ? Work it out yourself...

After signing up to a ridiculas contract for 18-24mths without unlimited data usage..... this phone should easily cost you £1000+

£1 case is all they can offer...... (probrably cost 5p to make frm china by a 10yrs old boy who gets paid 50p a day*) what about the so call scratch resistant glass? Or the dodgy proxmity sensor.... i can go on

All hail steve jobs.... for fixing 1 of many flaws

how do apple think they can get away with a press statement saying it software this and software that then say they are giving out free case's clearly its hardware i can tell you if i brought a car that didnt run right when i heald the streering wheel a certain way it would be RECALLED clearly this metal band round the phone causes problems when heald as all humans give of a small electric charge that can be measured by even the simplest hand held voltage tester so poping a case on it will stop that from transfering to the handset poor design plain and simple !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous, 18 Jul 2010Everyone is talking about the issue since the release in th... morePerhaps Apple should've done some actual & proper testing of the iPhone4 before it was released for public consumption.

When Jobs held a keynote address & raved up & down, & had nothing but praise & accolades about revolutionary his aerial antenna design is...it better damn work at least as good, (if not much better) than what is currently on the market.

Do you really think that Apple's claimed percentage of .55% is even remotely accurate?

It is a hardware design issue, pure & simple. It affects every single iPhone4 that is/was released. The only reason why people are putting up with antenna problem is because they are so enamored with Apple that they will eat up any excuse Apple feeds them. The utter lack of current features on the iPhone 2, 3G, & 3Gs is testament to that fact.

I have been using mobile devices ever since their inception, & never had I had a single device that failed to do its first & foremost intended purpose of being a dependable form of wireless communication.

The fact that Jobs was trying to smear other companies along with him is an utter disgrace. If you can show me a widespread phenomena of the cessation of call & data transmission due to a failed antenna design from any other manufacturer, I will eat my underwear.

You can't...& the reason is because any mobile manufacturer with any sense would make absolutely sure that a mobile phone's first priority is that functions as a mobile phone.

They screwed up, and on top of that they tried to deny their wrongdoing. Hey, and for the sake of argument, lets say Jobs is right and only 0.55% of phones are affected. Does tham mean Apple should be let off the hook? No, why? Because numbers are irrelevent, the fact of the matter is Apple fucked up and tried to deny themselves of any wrongdoing. Everyone is talking about the issue since the release in the US, in the media, sites like this, reviews, and I even talked to iPhone4 users.
But when I compare all those reactions there is something funny:
-> Media: Blame apple!! It's all their fault!! Their evil!!
-> Sites like this: Look what the media says! Their totally right!
-> Independent companies making reviews: There is no issue with the phone we think, we tested the youtube-clips... nope, no decrease of the Antenna.
-> Users: I'm really happy about the phone, and I don't experience anything of that issue.
And what does Apple say? They DO admit that their is a problem but only with 0.55% of the AppleCare users, so maybe in reality that is 1% ('cause not everyone is calling to AppleCare). And 1% of 3 000 000 is indeed a large number: 30 000. But 99% is happy with the phone! And don't experience any problem... And who listens to them? Nobody. Why? 'cause that isn't fun, agreeing with someone.

My conclusion: all those talks about the issue of the signal dropping are a bit overrated. There is a problem, and Apple does admit that. On the other hand, that problem is only with a small amount of users, and that is normal that something happened in the making of the iPhone.
                                        So please, be reasonable...
