Antenna wars: RIM, HTC and Nokia strike back at Apple

18 July, 2010
That was one hell of an odd press conference on Friday. Typical Apple. Instead of just admitting its faults Apple decided to point a finger at the other mobile phone manufacturers and accuse them of selling...

I LOVE GSM arena!

I mean in this forum we have -

1. Apple fanboys
2. Nokia fan boys
3. HTC fanboys
4. RIM fanboys
5. Sony fanboys

Now the bottom 4 groups are hating at the iPhone, they claim its a "fail" but would they be here spending there time on a forum if there world was not threatened by the iphone?

then there is the Apple fanboys who wont take the time to listen to others?

Have you not noticed that all Apple related articals get the most posts?

Have you not though that maybe "Antennagate" was created to increase interest and the only reason the other manufactures are hitting back is because they did not think of it? Marketing is a strange world!

90% of all nokia phone manuals tell you "the right way to hold the device" to ensure you get the best signal?

All MOBILE PHONES SUFFER WITH ANTENNAGATE IN SOME FORM.

There is a saying - bad news is the best news - turn on your TV now and watch the news 95% of it will be bad news because that is what keeps people interested!

I work in the industry and the iphone has cause me nothing but trouble since the first one came out. Of all phones they have the highest crash rate and they are pathetically flimsy. Thats why this antenna thing doesn't suprise me. What suprises me is the way they have handled it. Instead of fixing the damn thing, they denied it then gave everyone a cover. Thats like buying a new porshe, finding a huge cut in the leather seats and ten being told to put a seat cover over it.

Buy a samsung galaxy or an xperia x10. These are cheaper, do much more, are way more reliable and use android which is chock full of apps and also allows you to do what ever you want. If i want to send a song to someone who doesn't have an Iphone then i can, i dont need itunes to do the most basic of tasks and i can call anyone i want on 3g video calling oh except for those with an Iphone 4.

On the plus side you guys get me so much commission that's I sometimes feel like I'm a criminal for taking advantage of the mentally handicapped.

Lastly i really just want to say that folders, multi tasking, wifi video calling, secondary cameras and 5mp with HD is seriously 5 year old technology. My 3 last phones have had these features. If you fall for this marketing then your deserve to be ripped off.

Apple didnt steal coverflow, it was a small company that Apple bought, that first did coverflow, was a Mac app.

Nokia - can anyone explain this behavior?

Iphone 4 is rubbish and it is not fair that they have to bring other companies into their debate regarding their own faulty design and its true how can they say other companies attena signal is poor when you n eed to put a case around the Iphone to get a signal???????

Working in Phone sales gives me some perspective on the issue, and I have to say no other Phone in recent memory has this issue to the degree an IP4 does. It doesnt appear to be all of them, but it is in a significant portion. We've seen it for ourselves. The whole Apple buisiness model is about having the 'it' phone and the brand name. That is why Apple are panicing , because it's the same thing that has put them where they are is now hurting them. I know other phones have had problems. Sony Erricsons and N-series Nokias the normal culprits, however they have never reacted like Apple have. I certainly havent seen any signal dipping issues with the other phones mentioned. Currently the IP4's are still going fast , but now it's alot easier to switch sell customers into something else

Only right (imo) that apple should remind people that other companies phones have "antenna design flaws" (there are some). whoever posted here about it being wrong for them to point the finger at others, well no! people need to know! i myself have wasted too much money on phones with dodgy antenna placement & gone to different companies. IN FACT, i was just about to jump ship to iphone ( ! ! ) but halted at the last minute due to this.

there is (or has been) a horrible trend in making phones with antennas where you'd be holding them. it makes no sense, except to cram more tech into a smaller, sexier package. truth be told they don't really care how well it performs for you, as long as the demonstrators work at the expos, & as long as people are mostly locked into contracts with them.

that was very mean to lay the blame on the whole industry as such, and try to subdue the actual issue. Mr.Jobs has stooped to a level never expected in a year when he was declared the CEO of the decade.

inertia71635, 20 Jul 2010My personal experience with memory cards has not been a goo... moreyou always lose everything?... it's either you bought a very cheap and tacky memory card or deleted the content by accident. I have a backup phone Nokia 6230 which use for going on holidays or to the beach (no way i am taking my Desire to the beach and fill it with sand)it require an MMC card.... no data lose at all after all these years. make sure you get yourself a decent memory card in the future. sandisk should be the best bet. i bought a 16gb micro sdhc for my desire, works perfect :) you can drag and drop what ever and when ever you like to share your music, pics or vids... not like some fruit company who CONTROLS you from sharing with your families and friends..... make sure you hold your phone the right (apple) way.

Your 5heep 5hagging days are numbered..FLAWS, FINGER POINTING, FAIL!!!

This just goes to show how arrogant 'iDrones' are! And it appears Mr Jobs is the biggest one of all. Like all iDrones all they see is Apple. I work in the industry and see scores of iPhones back faulty (with multiple and various faults) and I know iDrones that refuse to admit that they go wrong at all. They are blinded by the Apple logo. However this is the case with so many manufacturers; none of them will admit when they make a faulty handset. I know of so many handsets that should have been recalled from the launch date, but very few have. I find it interesting that Apple seem to give conflicting reports saying that there isn't a problem with the signal or anything else. But then saying it is a software fault and a software update will fix it; and then releasing a case that sorts it. So is it a software fault or hardware fault?? Surely it shouldn't need a software update if it is not faulty?. I think Apple should stop being the coward it has become and admit it made a mistake. I have never had an iPhone and I will never have one; and I work in the industry, which I think says a lot.
