Antennagate ain't over, Samsung and Motorola respond, too

19 July, 2010
After RIM, HTC and Nokia, it was about time for the respond of the rest of the companies affected by Apple's statements last Friday. Well, here is what Samsung and Motorola have to say about the whole shebang...

I bought an Iphone 4, but today i got rid of it, i seriously don't think its a phone. I had dropped calls and was angry because the proximity sensor kept annoying me while talking on phone, i keep pressing buttons with my cheek and thats annoying. When i go to basements or out camping i struggle with the signal specially when im holding it in a very normal way that i hold every other phone. People who don't see the problem are probably living in an area with strong signal.

I researched the whole issue, and it is truly a design flaw, and let me explain it, every other smartphone has an internal antenna which is covered by the phones cover and is safe away from humans hands which conduct a very light electric current, each human being has an electric current and that interferes with the external antenna of the Iphone 4 when touched or gripped in a wrong way, and thats the problem plus Apple already had problems in antennas since they are not a Telecommunication company, even the 3GS which i had, did have reception problems but in the Iphone 4 its much worse.

To say the truth Apple are bad in phones, but good in multimedia devices which i say that they should stick to rather than the telecommunication area. Im not the only one who struggled with the Iphone 4, even a friend of mine has the same problems, but he is waiting for a future update which i already told him that there will be no such thing since its a design flaw.

This is an advanced antenna as Steve said.

Like a hair drier company shows in the instructions how to hold it.

Apple... Really messed up this. Why? The industry already knew about the problems with antenna placement many years back and they've fixed it. Or rather knew how to design phones without the problem. For Apple to now say all phones suffer the same problem when held in a particular way is just lame.

[deleted post]when the 3gs came out, it was respectable, what's not, iphone 4, what's worse, now we see steve jobs' true colors.. Maybe the RDF's not a theory after all... I was an iphone user before, even had iphone4.. But this event proved that apple doesn't care for their consumers.. Giving away cases? What about the way they treated the people, and dragging other companies into their problem.. I've had phones before, from motorola, sony e, samsung, nokia, and i never experienced this kind of problem the iph4 have.. I started to wonder whether iph4 is just one, redesigned ipod touch.. Got rid of my iph4, it's dumb useless anyway, got 7 dropped calls since the first hour til the 4th day.. I'm never goin back to apple again... They disappoint me... This year, the apple fell down from the tree and was eaten by a horse..

[deleted post]wow, censorship is the solution. Censor everybody who doesn't agree with Apple. Really GSMARENA has been very positive in all of there iPhone reviews. They have been very forgiving of the iPhones weeknesses and ommissions. Take a few minutes and read them.

Wew, I don't know why Apple has to compare its bad signal with other brand and also blame them. It is not good attitude.
It is a funny thing that we are told to hold phone in such way thing.I agree with Sanjay jha, I don't like being told how to hold my phone. It is 21st century not 19th. Actually,my phone has no problem in any holding position. Every manufacture (brand) must have calculated the signal reception. I think Apple as a 'premature' manufacture have to take longer time to make a research. Don't blame other brand, but learn from them. That's when experience does the job.

Just hope this is not one of Apple’s long thought PR strategy.
Bring other company to the table, and intimidate them to get too excited so they looks like a bunch of opportunist hyena seeing chance to bite the Apple, thus shifting the public sentiment back to Apple.

The 3GS is a great device, and despite the advances of the 4, I think a lot of people locked into a contract at the moment may either wait for the next iphone, or may opt for Android.

all the phone companies should sue apple for the crap that came out of their mouths. i have been using smarphone for over 8 years and never came across a call drop or loss of signal totally. they (apple) do not want to admit that their magical icrap design is totally flawed. this is also why they accepted to give away free cases without even trying to argue about the issue, thereby admitting their failure. never in the history of smartphones any company gave away free cases in order to resolve an engineering issue.

If people are happy with their iPhone 4 so be it, nokia, Motorola, HTC, RIM have a right to be angry, Samsung more so being a Apple partner being stabbed by them. Fact is they are trying to lighten the blow by bring down other manufatures, Publicly basing compeditors is against anti compeditive laws and they all have right to sue Apple.

I have never had dropped calls or poor signal due to the way i am holding any of my samsung phones and without the need of extra addons being almost mandatory. Wish i could say the same about my wifes 3GS which drops calls regualary for no reason.

Fact being, if you are happy with your iPhone 4 good for you hope you are as you are paying a fortune for it. Me i picked a Samsung Galaxy S not for the looks but what it can do, it is the fastest and lightest phone with a fantastic screen and works plain and simple!

While I am not the hugest fan of the i8000, as a disgruntled Samsung Omnia 2 owner, I can safely say that one feature of the handset that has always impressed me was it's call quality and signal quality. I've never had a call drop out or give up due any sort of hand grip technique. Calls have always been good.

Seems to me that 2010 is turning into the year when the Apple fell from the tree and began to rot.
