Antennagate ain't over, Samsung and Motorola respond, too

19 July, 2010
After RIM, HTC and Nokia, it was about time for the respond of the rest of the companies affected by Apple's statements last Friday. Well, here is what Samsung and Motorola have to say about the whole shebang...

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010I don't know. Maybe yes, maybe no. Same thing with the ip... moreI'd say no - I can drop bars on ANY phone I ever had (for the last 10 years) if I hold it somewhere "wrong"... my body is not made of air. But look, it's also got to do with the principle on which phones interact with base stations: when on standby, you get as much power from the base station (cell phone provider's transmitter) as you need to keep you connected. But if you want to make a call, send a message etc, you are automatically switched to the nearest and strongest base station. So, even if I drop some bars, I try to make a call and I get the bars back right away, the strongest possible signal (even if I'm still holding MY phone the "wrong way"). And apparently the i4 just loses all connection completely. There is something strange about that, to say the least.

So it was never an issue before iPhones came along."

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010Stop exaggerating. Iphone4 users are making and receiving ... moreI trust consumer reports & gsmarena is regards to dropped calls much more than any group of people who goes by the handle Anonymous. they have clearly indicated that calls can be induced to drop.

my previuos post never stated that iPhone 4 dropped calls. it pointed out that external antennas might not be the best idea when combined with a capacitive touchscreen

one more point : reception better than all other iPhones says very little. Better than poor isn't good or competetive with other manufactures.

My experience with the iPhone 3G had it's reception MUCH worse than the Nokia 6500C & Nokia 6600 slide that were used prior to and after the 3G. there was no comparison.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010apple's gesture of giving away free rubber cases is nice, l... moreConsidering what Apple is trying to achieve here, that death grip is not a major flaw, but rather a weak spot. A weak spot that all phones have. He already admitted that the iphone4 is not perfect. But so are the other phones. Should the others release a letter of apology every time their device lags and freezes due to their poor os? Of course not. And why would they say sorry when it's the media and the non-iphone users who are complaining, not actual iphone4 users?! As far as Apple is concerned, they are not sorry for what and how the iphone4 became to be. And they don't need to say sorry because the iphone4 is the best iphone there is.

If you don't want it, don't buy it. Period.

aaptk, 21 Jul 2010there are very few features unique to the iphone, but there... moreThe iphone has a component tv out, which is one of the best output connection available, second only to hdmi. What has dlna got to do with that?

What? Voice calls only over wifi? You're wrong. You don't need wifi to make a voice call with the iphone.

Divx support is nice to have, but why would that be a great loss if you don't have it? How many people do you know rely on their phones for watching movies?

Ios4 does have multitasking. It's the smartest multitasking implementation if you ask me. It knows which apps can run in the background and which ones can be suspended. That is good for battery power and performance of the phone. BT is useful for headsets for the iphone. What else would I use it for? I have other better options for file transfers.

If the iphone is not for you, then get something else. But just because it does not have the features that you need, it does not mean that it has full of flaws.

He still did not admit that there was a major flaw in the iphone4. all he said was they were giving away cases because they love their users not because iphone4 was faulty. he made it seem like they were only giving cases because the users were crying for free cases.

Now, if we cannot makes and receive calls with it, and still stuck with it, then that's the time you call us blind followers. But that's obviously not the case, because like we said many times already, that you non-iphone users seem to play blind and deaf about, the iphone4 has a best reception and call quality among all iphones.

That's why I thought that Apple's gesture of giving free cases is a good one.

I will also agree with you that a lot of iphone users only bought is as a fashion accessory and for fart apps. A lot of them don't even know what else the iphone is good for. But really, there are so many good uses for the iphone, especially the iphone4. It's video recording and camera capabilities are really great and can be put to really good use when used in the tons of apps that's available.

It's still a matter of choice or preference. I am in the US. And for me, no other phone has worked better than the iphone. I really don't see the iphone a smart choice in most Asian countries.

They simply want to show the public that attenuation issues are not exclusive to the iphone4. And I think that's just fair especially when it is a fact.

What is not fair is, other phonemakers trying to make Apple look bad took the opportunity to criticizing the iphone4's antenna design, YET, not denying Apple's statement that all phones have weak spots. Now that's messed up.
