Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

Whether it's attenuation, detuning or whatever. The fact is, we are not dropping calls and it's an improvement over 3gs. No need to get too technical here. A signal drop, whether caused by detuning or attenuation, is a signal drop. And all phones drop signal bars when held in a certain way, not just the iphone. End of story.

cause the other videos the guy never poked his hand

so those concluding apple are manipulative punks

if n97 mini has reception issues, why not so many complaints as in iphone4? my brother has brought the ip4 even he being a isheep has admitted it's ridiculous flaw and apple should accept it.

*Here, I fixed it for you*

Reality distortion field (RDF) is a term coined by Bud Tribble at Apple Computers in 1981, to describe it's effect on Apple haters. Later the term has also been used to refer to perceptions of his keynote (or Stevenote) by observers and devoted users of any products apart from Apples

Bud Tribble claimed that the term came from Star Trek.

In essence, RDF is the idea that ihaters are able to convince themsevles and others to believe almost any bad rumours or conspiracy theories made up about Apple. RDF is said to distort an audience's sense of proportion or scales. Small advances are accused as copying. Interesting developments become faults, or huge leaps backwards. Snap judgments about technical merits without any facts are usually utilised. Those who use the term RDF contend that it is not an example of outright deception but more a case of warping the powers of judgment. The term "audience" may refer to an individual who a rival company is hoping to affect.

The term is rarely assumed to be a derogatory remark to criticize Apple's products and its more enthusiastic fans, but this is just a fallacy made up by the jealous, who, envious of the media coverage and popularity of Apple's products, unknowingly become victim to RDS themselves.

The term has extended in fanyboydom to other phone owners and fanboys, who try to convince people that Apple is evil, and that the huge success of it's products is irrelevent, sometimes without regard to the overall facts in question.

We know that propaganda, but apple shall solve it's problems by them self, and not bother others!
It's not nokia fault, why apple got problem with antennas!

When iphone4 loses signal, it disconnect online call and often missing calls, but nokia does not have that problem.

Apple are jealous at nokia N97mini is better than iphone and because problem with antenna the costumers will look up to Nokia N97mini, and apple are eager to grab the money instead, that is the problem, that is wot is bothering apple this days, they are use to drink blood from iphone funboys, and they started running for better, and that's N97mini!

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010It's because the media don't make a big deal on other phone... more"There are two separate technical problems, which Apple persists in fusing together, and confusing customers with in the process. The two issues are signal attenuation reduction - and antenna detuning. Both are well known and both lead to a loss of energy and therefore affect the signal.
                              What's the difference?
One of the best, simple explanations I've found is offered by antenna designer and consultant Spencer Webb, in a series of blogposts. In one, he talks about the differences between attenuation and detuning.
Essentially, when RF energy passes through the hand or head, it's partially turned into heat and lost, therefore reducing the signal. The human body does a pretty good job of this. That's why you can see the effects of signal reduction attenuation in any cell phone when you grip it.
                              How is detuning different?
Detuning relates to the fact that antennas work by resonating at particular frequencies, according to Webb. The human body concentrates radio waves more than air does. When you put your hand over the antenna, this concentrating effect loads' the antenna. This loading in turn lowers the resonant frequency of the antenna and may make it harder to "squirt energy into it" at the desired frequency. For a narrow-band antenna, the type used in cell phones, this loading sometimes might "kill" it completely, according to Webb.
What's different about the iPhone is that the antenna is placed on the outside edge of the phone and when held as most people hold a cell phone by the edges it comes in direct contact with the hand.
The other related issue is that when held in the left hand, the skin electrically "bridges" two separate antennas of different lengths, coupling them together and causing detuning, which was noticed and tested by Brian Klug and Anand Lal Shimpi at AnandTech.com. Like Webb, they discuss both attenuation and detuning"

Also, understand that the iPhone 4 is a good phone and it gets good reception, but the issue of reception loss from attenuation combined with de-tuning is the reason why GSMArena and the media are calling this into question.

I'd like to see them try and sue Apple for this.

It's not defamation, as they are making a valid point about normal antennas, and one that has been proven in plenty of tests. People have been aware of this for years. If it has upset any rival manufacturers, then what can they say?

Where the antenna is on the iphone 4, does not matter. Jobs will have had his legal teams all over this one for weeks.

If Nokia/Samsung and RIM went to the courts they would get nothing, apart from a bloody nose.

I'm simply amazed by how idi*t iphone user defend their phone.

I know iphone4 is great (except the antenna),
but I would not defend iphone4 because apple s*cks.
                                        Apple too arrogant
                                        Apple too controlling
and Apple really don't care about us.

And it would be ashame to us to buy apple product.

Anyone here want to start campaign at faceb**k or tw*ter for this?
