Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

I'm using N97 sins in last year. I have never feel this. And I'm using nokia phons inlast 10 years. I have never feel signal drop. Why apple point there finger to others. Find you work and make correct your iphone 4.

Apple pleas try to be gent.

Apple I'm asking you have you paid paten fee for Nokia after you make you iphone.

I'm again asking Apple be gent and do something for the world from your profit. Don't think to only drag others technology.

What are they saying? I held an N97 Mini, ALMOST CLOSE TO this way and it was showing full bars.

There's definitely some trickery going on.

Apple, please gather your leftover reputation and contact your customers and ask them what they want.
Don't listen to me/ us, Listen to your customers, and please...

Stop being a flamebait. Stop blaming other companies...

No matter how I hold my Nokia 6720 classic, I can't make it drop even one bar. What am I doing wrong, Apple? Sure, my phone has other problems, but I haven't had a single problem with signal no matter how I held it.

Apple are really making a bad name for themselves. Who on earth would ever hold a phone like that. The video could be photoshoped or even edited. My colleagues have this phone and we tried doing the same thing. The bar only drops by 1.

Even if the reception bars actually drop, the ones on the n97 shown in the video do not completely lose reception like the new iPhone. One is still able to make a cal.

Instead of pointing fingers at other manufacturers and making videos about it, they should actually use their time to test their own phones. Besides, the n97 is out for about 2 years now. The iPhone is out for a few months.

3araby, 21 Jul 2010no human being would hold his phone like that. that could... moreit's not fotoshop
the screen you see on that nokia phone is a MPEG4/AVC video.

              so how this work.
apple has set that at 3rd second that phone should lose the signal up to 10th second. and they make a video that look like the nokia home screen. nice move apple. you were as s*cks as before

I did similar test with my Nokia 5800 xpress music..When I started it had complete signal...But once I held it the same way as shown in video, the signal started dropping and after 20-30sec I lost my signal strength completely. I guess if that N97 mini would have been held for a bit longer then it would have lost its signal too.

Apple should look for another way to get out of the grave they dug themselves. Instead they are trying to include other brands in a war thats their own.
SJ get a life, leave the other superb brands alone. Why not compare the reception on the i4 to the i3g & i3gs
But SJ if you are reading this and you have an i4 in your hands that you want to throw away please don't. Just mail it to Kenya I'll take it :D

I have an apple iPhone 4 - but not for much longer. Instead of just apologizing to customers that the phone has a problem with signal, and that they will do there best to provide covers free of charge etc. they instead try to show us that other phones have the same problem. I dont care, stop acting like a little spoilt brat! The phone is great, but I am not owning anything from a company that thinks they are bigger and better than they are. I am ashamed that I am an apple user!

that other handset have the problem?
but their the worse? because a single touch with 1 finger can drop their finger while we need a full big hand to kill a signal out of the non-fruit signal??

Did you guys notice that the signal bar is showing with 3.5G? That is happening only when you downloading something. But when you make a call or send sms it will just be 3G or even adjust to pure gsm signal, which can be way more stronger than 3.5G. So it doesn't look like n97mini will drop a call at all. What can I say, dirty Apple!

Apple can post all the videos they want. Bottom line we didn't buy those we bought a iPhone 4. It's going to be funny when they get sued by everyone & their brother. Of course you'll still have the fanboi's that will buy it, & be tickle to death they cant use a phone as a phone.

i have tried this ,, and this does happen but i can assure you call quality is not affected .... this happens when u cover the bottom and the back part of the antenna and make it complete cut off form the atmosphere ... these is not due to interaction between 2 antenna ..... and it only happens when the unit is held very tightly with breakable force ... as then the signal is not able to reach the inner antenna part poor apple cant even make a fine piece in 2 year time and then blame companies which release a 15-20 phones a year

what is this for idiotic example. at thier iphone the reception dropped completely and with n97 mini it just lost a few bars, but still had enough to make a call. and besides that, who would hold a phone like that to make a call? at the iphone4 it was a natural way of holding the phone which caused the problem, not a completely gripped way in which you cannot hold the phone to your ear. i can also hold my phone in a way in which reception gets a little worse, butr never got it to drop completely, especcially not while holding it in a natural way.
