Apple squeezes the reception out of Nokia N97 mini

21 July, 2010
Apple seem keen to prove other smartphones have the same reception attenuation as the iPhone 4. And they are getting back with a video of Nokia N97 mini that suffers from the same grip of death as the iPhone...

i remember when nokia admits that they've sold a faulty battery and as a solution for that, they recalled millions of that battery, and have it replaced. at that point, i've put my trust to nokia, admitting their own mistakes and not blaming others..

i hope apple do the same thing with their products..

I WONT BUY NOR SUGGEST IPHONE PRODUCTS WITH MY FRIENDS OR MY FAMILY EVER AGAIN..

that's the payment of so much pride in your head..

just because they're apple, they can sell trash cans for $1000 just by putting apple logo on that rusty trash cans..

also, that's the first class quality control you will get for buying their products..

a few more mistakes and their back to stone age.. good luck..

oh Samsung Wave RULES!!!!

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010How's the ip4's antennagate bigger than usual?  Others... moreThe FACT of apple antenna gate is more than you could imagine. With your iphone a lightly touch at the antenna will result drop call, but in other phone you need to make a big effort to drop the signal.

And, no one from nokia/htc/samsung/etc user have feel that their phone is bad, but with apple the problem is serious. read this blog: http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2010/07/so-the-reality-check-on-apples-iphone-complaints-numbers.html

I quote part of the blog... be sure to read the full article:
      "THE COMPLAINTS OF 0.55%

Apple said 0.55 % of iPhone 4 users have called to complain about the antenna problems. Across 3 million sold iPhones, that is 16,500 people who have called Apple to complain. So my first immediate screaming observation is that this is perceived as a connection problem - the network connection was dropped, a call was dropped. Who do you call to complain about it? The first point of complaint will be the mobile operator (AT&T etc)

But yeah, 16,500 people have called Apple to complain. Is that a big number or small? Remember a car maker called Toyota? They had this nasty problem earlier this year, called 'unintended acceleration' which seemed to trouble several Toyota and Lexus models. It was really big in the news, as 52 people were killed in accidents involving those vehicles. How many total complaints have there been about Toyota and Lexus venicles in America in the full duration of that problem, from January to June? According to the US highways safety board, the NHTSA - the total number of complaints about Toyota and Lexus vehicles was 1,500. Thats it. Over six months, its an average of 8 per day.

Now fast forward to July of 2010. Apple says that in 22 days, they have received 16,500 complaints about iPhone Death Grip! Thats 750 per day! This is nearly 100 times more complaints daily, than the most famous consumer product failure in recent memory! Is Apple's problem 'real' or is it 'imagined'? Is it trivially small, or is it enormous? Obviously it is one of the biggest consumer product failures in recent memory. And by a mile, the worst phone launch. These 16,500 complaints were generated in the first 22 days, where it will easily take many days for a consumer to notice the problem - then to observe it is a 'pattern' rather than a one-time random event - and then to go call AT&T first, and then after those moments to turn to Apple and call. The real problem is FAR bigger than this what Apple now kindly reports to us.

How does that compare with the industry. HTC has provided its complaints level of the smartphone Apple mentioned in its press conference, the HTC Desire/Legend/Nexus One. How many complaints? Try 0.016%. Or one complaint per 6,250 phones.

Meanwhile Apple who tries to say everybody has the same problem, also told us that 20% of iPhone 4 buyers had a case or band. These won't be able to experience the problem. How bad is Apple's problem. The 0.55% is not from 100 phones, you have to remove the 20% who have the case. So its from 80 phones. So Apple has one complaint call per 145 iPhone 4 models sold!

Is this a fair comparison? As HTC says, Apple has 35 times more complaints than HTC. And HTC's product has been on the market for 9 months, so there is plenty of time for buyers to examine the product and find out all possible problems - still only one complaint per 6,250 smartphones. If we assume HTC has sold 3 million of those devices (to keep the math the same as the iPhone, probably HTC has sold less than this number) - that would be 480 complaints in total over 9 months, or 2 complaints per day.

In just 3 weeks of use, Apple owners have already found so much of a problem, 1 in 145 will call Apple to complain. And yeah, it is 750 complaints per day!. Apple problem is nearly 400 times worse than that of HTC's smartphones."

Even if the signal drops to 2 in a nokia the call never drops. more over even in full signal strength iphone is a weak product compared to nokie as far as the signal catch is concerned. not only in voice signal but also in data signal it applies the same. if u browse with nokia for wifi signals you will find so many of them when iphone rareelt catches any. and the 3g signal keep getting lost in iphone where in nokia it is very steady. iphone is good for internet if u have a good internet signal. but nokia ia clas apart. i am using both iphone and nokia E72. iphone dont bost too much of ur self. u r commiting a suicidal act. this may drive yout o death. Hi nokia get up manufacture for us your best phiones yet. we are waiting.....

i hav to admit i was hypnotized by apple and i bought the iphone 4. i dont use the phone much so dint care bout the reception issue. i was trying to impress this girl with the phone. when she borrowed my phone to make a call it kept getting cut or it neva connected when i told her she was holding it wrong she gave me a dirty look n took out her e63 which had the same network provider n made the call. tho her battery was low the call on her phone was clear. it was really embarassing. she told me to throw the junk iphone in the lake. i did not pay so much money to be embarassed by the product. we do not get the iphone 4 here so i got one from a guy who imported it. paid 1170 us dollars for it. wtf this is my last apple product ever.

Anonymous, 21 Jul 2010Well sir it's because there's no fix to this problem yet. &... moreI have to disagree. Media didn't point out that this problem occurs "only with iPhone 4" - it's just bigger than the usual, otherwise we would've seen such videos about other phones long time ago.
It's like that: till now almost nobody complaint about reception issues with their phone, suddenly iPhone 4 appears with it's fancy-external-all-around antenna and BANG - people start to have problems with it, and thats by just holding it naturally (nobody's trying "death grips" or whatever).
The responce from Apple is... "we're not the only one!" - yes indeed, but your device has the biggest issue among all the rest. Otherwise Mr. Jobs wouldn't cut of his profit to hand out free cases, would he? So wrap it up - the issue is that big that it forced Apple to add external case to their otherwise slim and sophisticated iPhone 4 - is there another phone that can be useless without a case - I don't think so.
