I tried holding the 5800 everywhich way and I couldn't get the signal to drop, both on and off calls.
I think Apple is just rotten.

Steve STOP being a BABY in a wet pants...
Apple need to grow there attitude..
i work in a mobile gaming and testing company, we have wide range of mobile devices from all manufacture and i personally use N97 Mini,
after i saw the post and place to grip n97 mini which leads to reception lose, i tried the same thing....
but nothing happens other then losing 1 bar out of seven....
i have tried the same thing on places where the reception is low and it resulted dropping of 1 bars out of 5.....
no matter i hold the death grip with both of my hands... the result is same, and i dont think this effects to any NOKIA user....
Steve u $uck.... at-least be loyal to ur customers and stop proving urself $tupid :D

Niraj, 23 Jul 2010You forgot one thing. All these 3M people are previous ipho... moreRegardless if the 3m ip4 users are new ones or upgrades. If it's that bad, to a point that you cannot make or receive calls, we will be returning our iphones. But as been said so many times already. Apple is getting so very low return rates for the ip4. Meaning, the ip4 is still doing great despite all the media attacks, which says a lot that what the media is spreading is questionable.

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010The problem is...
Steve Jobs is so lame to the point tha... moreAnd why wouldn't he drag the others into the antennagate issue if he needs to. How else is he going to prove his statement that antennagate is common to smartphones?
Would you be ok if you're the only one to get fired for an error that 10 other co workers committed? So you just want Apple to sit there and admit to the media that the ip4 is the only phone with antennagate issues, knowing that the rest of the mobile phone industry face the same challenge? Nice one buddy, but I don't think so. The whole mobile industry are all in it together. The media should not single out the ip4.

Niraj, 23 Jul 2010Do you remember N97?? Most of people who start complaining ... moreOh no, you are wrong. Iphone users are not a bunch of haters like nokia users are. I'm sure there are some, but even if you go to nokia boards, it's always nokia users who drags the iphone in the argument.

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010THis is no big deal what Apple is making. It sells a phone ... moreAnd what did Steve say that made you think that he's finding fault with others? The antennagate is a fact of life among phones. It cannot be avoided for now. It's an imperfection that the mobile industry and the users would have to deal with. So what's wrong with Steve bringing it up to prove to the media that antennagate is not exclusive to the ip4 if it's indeed a fact?

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010I just like to remind everyone how bad the apple iphone4 re... more16,000 complaints is a small number to 3,000,000 units sold.
As for using Toyota as an example. Toyota did not sell 3,000,000 cars in 3 weeks like the iphone did. Also, the Toyota issue endangers the lives of their drivers. The death grip issue does not. So I do not know what you are trying to get at.
Yes, Apple got 750 complaints per day for 22 days, but they are also selling 170,000 phones a day. That 750 is insignificant to 170,000. And those complaints wouldn't have probably happened if the media didn't exaggerate the issue.
Again, Apple offers a full refund for those who are not happy with their ip4. What else do you want them to do? Pay them a million dollars each?
And your calculation is wrong buddy. The .55% is not from 100 users, but from 3,700,000 people.

Stuntman, 23 Jul 2010My impression of Apple's press conference is not about show... moreSteve did say that Apple is not perfect, and that the iphone isn't perfect. What more do you want them to say? He doesn't even owe you an explanation because your are not an ip4 user. So what are you comolaining about? As it has been said over and over again, ip4 users are very happy with their iphones, and that is all that matters. Apple is giving away free cases that fixes the problem, and are offering a full refund if users still aren't happy. So what's your problem?

I'm disappointed with Apple. Huge understatement, now I know I agreed not to use foul language but its getting too much. I'm a Apple lover, yes but sometimes my lover needs a good spanking -and a lot of foul words to knock in some sense...so here it goes...top reasons Apple guys are retarded.
1) Apple is a company so retarded, I won't be surprised if they manufacture another product call iBullshit and people flock to buy it -because they're retarded as well.
2) Apple won't listen to consumers because they think they're god...a god who likes to suck stevies' iballs. Maybe thats why they're retarded.
3) Apple guys need booty because maybe, they're so starved of good ol sex that their frontal lobe has shrunk and hence the retardation!
4) Apple needs a good spanking -with whips laced with sharp razors and 7 inch nails, maybe the pain inflicted on them will result in their realisation that, "Hey, maybe we've actually fuc*ed the public hard, we need to say we're sorry and manufacture better products."
5) Apple needs their manufacturing plant bombed to oblivion, maybe then they'll say, "ahh..wtf the factory was bullshit anyway.."
6) Apple needs psychotherapy ASAP.
7) More therapy.
8) Apple needs wee*d.
9) Apple needs more wee*d.
.
.
.
and finally...
10) Apple owes free beer to every one they screwed up -for the rest of time!
*disclaimer - the article above was a vision dreamt by an Apple gayboy..err...fanboy, hence purely fictional. The dreamer holds no responsibility whatsoever as he might just be typing this-in his dreams!!*

Niraj, 23 Jul 2010No, you are wrong! Search twitter, facebook, google and see... moreTheir are legitimate complaints, from actual ip4 users, and then there illegitimate complaints, from non-ip4 users. Even here on GSM Arena, the ones complaining a lot are the non-ip4 users. Unless you can show us official reports from at&t specifically complaining about the death frip issue on ip4.

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010A weak spot is in the IPhone 4 only, because other smartpho... moreIt's not just the ip4 that has antennagate videos on youtube. There are tons of other phones as well. Again, it doesn't matter whether the antenna is interna or external. External antenna would always work better than internal. The downside is, obviously it's the antennagate being more sensitive. But still, it's not a big deal because it can easily be avoided or remedied by a case. And it only occurs in areas with weak carrier signal.

I just like to remind everyone how bad the apple iphone4 really is...
read this blog:
http://communities-dominate.blogs.com/brands/2010/07/so-the-reality-check-on-apples-iphone-complaints-numbers.html
I quote from the blog (read the full blog for more detail):
Apple said 0.55 % of iPhone 4 users have called to complain about the antenna problems. Across 3 million sold iPhones, that is 16,500 people who have called Apple to complain. So my first immediate screaming observation is that this is perceived as a connection problem - the network connection was dropped, a call was dropped. Who do you call to complain about it? The first point of complaint will be the mobile operator (AT&T etc)
But yeah, 16,500 people have called Apple to complain. Is that a big number or small? Remember a car maker called Toyota? They had this nasty problem earlier this year, called 'unintended acceleration' which seemed to trouble several Toyota and Lexus models. It was really big in the news, as 52 people were killed in accidents involving those vehicles. How many total complaints have there been about Toyota and Lexus venicles in America in the full duration of that problem, from January to June? According to the US highways safety board, the NHTSA - the total number of complaints about Toyota and Lexus vehicles was 1,500. Thats it. Over six months, its an average of 8 per day.
Now fast forward to July of 2010. Apple says that in 22 days, they have received 16,500 complaints about iPhone Death Grip! Thats 750 per day! This is nearly 100 times more complaints daily, than the most famous consumer product failure in recent memory! Is Apple's problem 'real' or is it 'imagined'? Is it trivially small, or is it enormous? Obviously it is one of the biggest consumer product failures in recent memory. And by a mile, the worst phone launch. These 16,500 complaints were generated in the first 22 days, where it will easily take many days for a consumer to notice the problem - then to observe it is a 'pattern' rather than a one-time random event - and then to go call AT&T first, and then after those moments to turn to Apple and call. The real problem is FAR bigger than this what Apple now kindly reports to us.
How does that compare with the industry. HTC has provided its complaints level of the smartphone Apple mentioned in its press conference, the HTC Desire/Legend/Nexus One. How many complaints? Try 0.016%. Or one complaint per 6,250 phones.
Meanwhile Apple who tries to say everybody has the same problem, also told us that 20% of iPhone 4 buyers had a case or band. These won't be able to experience the problem. How bad is Apple's problem. The 0.55% is not from 100 phones, you have to remove the 20% who have the case. So its from 80 phones. So Apple has one complaint call per 145 iPhone 4 models sold!

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2010Whether it's internal or external, weak spots still do exis... moreMy impression of Apple's press conference is not about showing that other phones have a similar issue. I felt that he is avoiding the issue that the iP4 has issues with a simple touch in that spot that shorts out the antenna. You do not need a death grip to cause issues with the iP4 like you seem to do with the other phones. So far, of all of the videos that show other phones dropping bars, none of the ones I have seen happens with a mere touch of a specific spot like I have seen on the iPhone 4.
