This is brilliant news! I miss the practical innovation and quality of Nokia, so it's great news to hear they will be making phones once more. I know they are not allowed to sell smartphones until end of 2016 - but I hope they can start already designing a smartphone so we can all buy it on Jan 1st 2017 :)

Nokia Should Come Back.......Samsung Still Behind In Hardware Quality.......... If Nokia Come To Smart Phone Market Then Again Samsung Fans Cry Like Never Before ........ Nokia Previous Rule 14 Years........ And Now Situation Is Very Different Where China Market Increasing......... They Should Concentrate In Series Like Motorola Adopted Previously .......... They Should Come With Both Android Phones And Windows Laptops. It Will Increase There Market Again.

AnonD-60230, 18 May 2016Nokia is lame company.. it's a smartphone war and not the o... moreSales of feature phones in the USA rose last year for the first time in years - same in Japan. It is a growing market, so makes sense for Foxconn to make Nokia feature phones. You are right though - smartphones are also a huge market, and they have lots of work to do to catch up with teh others - lets see what they can do. Personally I love the quality. I still have a two year old Nokia Lumia 735 which has been dropped, thrown, rained on... still working perfectly and looking smart.

Yeah Nokia forever! Cannot wait your new smartphones. I hope great designs, display, performance, battery and build quality is your top priority. And I hope you put new surprise technologies in your smartphones like you always did but please be sure that these technologies are useful and not like that 3D touch thing.

More players are always good for consumers, but that said Nokia needs to do a lot to even start. Mediocre, mid-rangers won't cut it. Choosing Android is fine, but Nokia is on the back foot technologically e.g. All main competitors were improving and optimising Screens, Camera, Processor, Memory for years. OK camera sensors can be bought from Sony, Screens, CPU and Memory from Samsung... but without dedicated In-house R&D Nokia will never become competitive, but building R&D capacity is not one year job, but rather decade.
