Am I hoping that if you drop your ARA that after it has disintegrated into it's modules all over a hard tiled kitchen floor or sidewalk, that without human intervention, the modules automagically crawl back towards the CPU and re-assemble like the T-1000 does after being dealt some whoopass by Arnie.

As for complaining...well as usually manufacturers get it wrong. There are tons of fashionphones for the masses, Ara was about different type of users who want quality and functionality as top priority. There's no point in making a modular phone for fashioboys/girls. And it currently isn't for advanced users too. So it will be a fail and we are still stuck with the same "choices"

Anonymous, 21 May 2016Well this would be no different than having a few different... moreprobably not on the first gen of Ara..but afaik the battery, processor and screen should not be swappable..be cause they cannot be swapped on the fly anyway...and if they do make a swappable core component system the 1st gen will be so thick then users will start complaining on that too..its not possible to please everybody.....

A few screen sizes a fewother changes and as always, you'll have one thing you like and other thing you don't, which is a compromise. For example, i want a 5.5-6.0 phone with a huge (At least 400-4500 mah) removable battery, 2 sim slots with sd card and a good speaker(s). Pretty sure i won't get all of that with Ara.

Anonymous, 21 May 2016The thing is, it's not about upgrade, but asembling the dev... moreah i think my words came out wrong..sorry about that..what i mean is that...in the PC ecosystem also there are restrictions..if you go shopping there are chipset types, socket types and whatnot, making a phone will be like making a teeny tiny itx pc...what i mean to say is that say google has released a phone with 5.3in screen a processor and an integrated battery, that will(read as..should) not be their only skeleton, probably they will have a trio of phones say how about 4.8in, 5.3in and 6in with appropriate chipsets on which people can build their phones(like buying a prebuilt PC from an OEM like hp and adding a new graphic card) and relax its their first gen...they got a loooong way to go
think of the other ways you can use this modularity...people who want to take photos can add modules with optic zoom, and on that topic why not add 2 cam modules for an instant 3d cam and a xenon flash instead of those weak leds, audiophiles can add their sound cards, gamers can add modules with physical buttons(hmm..wonder if they thought of this :|.. )how about dual sim/triple sim/quadriple sim??
the current flagships have a plethora of features..someof which are useless some are not enough..these can be addressed with such a build..
now t he problem will be to integrate all this in Android OS..they may to make that modular too..with each module carrying a piece of optimized software

viveksubhash, 21 May 2016haven't we seen more than our share of usb battery packs?? ... moreBattery cases are not very efficient in their current implementation (With a 2000mah case, your phone will receive, say, 1300mah due to voltage conversion). Unless they implement it differently, would be useless, and i doubt they'll care about battery, just like every other manufacturer doesn't.

But the first device will be a dis... moretrue..a good exoskeleton will be needed to take care of this phone..probably they will have to limit expandability in one or 2 directions so a band or metal strip can be added for better stability...or it will probably break like a lego structure
