Consumers are going to be able to get it starting next year.

I wanna swap my CPU and GPU not Camera and Storage... useless. And IMO the video models look bad.

No switching chipset, memory or battery, then what's the point in switching? What are we supposed to switch? Camera? Thanks, but no thanks.

Let's assume, if all the phone look same, it's boring!

don't pretend you know anything about technology pal just read your news paper and live with your iphone.
let the real people and technicians do the real job, just sit there and watch you are not supposed to do anything else.
that's how technology is evolved through all these years slow and steady no at once not in one day.
did you just come outta a cave or something?
for EX, OLED tech is about 20 years old at least but was released not many years from now.
it takes years to develop a new technology and years again advancing in it, it's not like making ice cream as you know it.
so sit there on your sofa and enjoy your ice cream, that's what you are supposed to do and technicians are supposed to decide how to advance in tech not you.

That moment when you realise non-modular phones can swap batteries while a modular phone can't...

I don't get it, about a year ago, they advertised that chipsets, screens and batteries would be modular. I even remember the frame had one side just for a screen and another for all the other components. I'm gonna be pretty mad if I can't upgrade my Snapdragons every year... Or a broken screen which is basically the very first thing that breaks in any phone!

Akinaro, 21 May 2016Battery and screen cant be replaced? Is this a joke? Whole ... moreBecause there are still limitations with the current technology. Screen connectors are delicate to replace and require care, you cant hotswap a screen and expect everything to work just fine. Battery is locked for now until a swappable solution is available. Early models have always been flawed especially an early product like ARA, but with enough support, modular phones can become a thing.

Google found out that making the cpu, gpu, screen and battery modular is kinda hard so they did'nt make them modular. What's the point of a modular phone where you can't replace a broken screen or upgrade to a newer cpu? Its hard to make everything modular in a phone sized body then Google should have made a modular ARA Tablet instead where everything is modular. It would have been easier then the phone.

Battery and screen cant be replaced? Is this a joke? Whole point of that idea is to replace part of phones that change often: camera, battery, screen and misc parts like buttons and overall look.

What is the point of MODULAR phone if you cant change most important part of it?
And oh my god what a failure it is that you cant change battery on modular phone...

I hope the consumer versiin will be more versatile and sturdy. They also should invent a protective casing for the back to avoid all the modular from falling off all over the place when dropped.
