Moto Z duo: hot or not?

10 June, 2016
Lenovo announced the Moto Z and Moto Z Force yesterday turning a new page in the company’s history. The new devices accent heavily on modularity with a special bunch of addons called MotoMods.

DenisXD, 13 Jun 2016or maybe he isn't naive to give his personal info online. D... moreHaha I love how everyone thinks they NEED to insult people just because the don't think like they do.
It IS a questionable move, I never said it wasn't. And I'm pretty sure they didn't need to remove it all that much, they probably just saw an opportunity to save like a buck or two per phone on something that's allegedly kicking the bucket over the next couple of years and said "might as well start saving now, even if we screw some people along the way"
What I was saying (and I can't believe I need to keep repeating this) is that I am OK with it. Not that I think everyone else should be too.
Now regarding everything you said about the inconvenience of not having it... you do realise that you could hand the adapter to your friend (and yes I do have some of those, thank you very much for taking such kind interest in my well-being:) ) and they could use it just as you would, right? And you could use it with speakers as well.

AnonD-205566, 13 Jun 2016Ok. First of all, i'm not "cheering at every limitation/ri... moreor maybe he isn't naive to give his personal info online. Doesn't mean he is a coward. As for the 3,5 jack? Are you serious?
What if your friend doesn't have your port and want to test his headphones with your device? (if you have a friend).
What if you have speakers with 3,5 jack like I do? I don't have to turn my pc on to listen to music loudly. Call it innovation whatever, it's a questionable move. I think that's because companies want you to buy only their headphones, instead of some other 20e cheap if you break your original headphones. Use your head, companies play you.

As for the poll, a big not. This bottom bezel is hideous and the camera.. ugh who they hired for the design? Their neighbor's 14 year old daughter? Sorry but believe it or not phone design still plays a big role, and these new phones failed to impress. Just look at the negative comments.

thankfully there are more sensible and mature people in the tech world than the children that are overly vocal on these boards.

Hot right now. Too bad by the time it's available on GSM (this fall), many people won't care because of the slew of other new phones released by then. I can't believe making Moto Z Verizon exclusive is Lenovo's brilliant strategy to making Moto profitable. They must be getting their ideas from South Park.

            Anonymous, 12 Jun 2016Chose, eh? So how can i chose to have a 3.5mm jack? It's a ... moreOk.
First of all, i'm not "cheering at every limitation/ridiculous 'invention'". I'm just saying that I don't think losing the 3.5mm jack is such a big deal, and that I'm ok with it. As is the case with other devices that don't have a 3.5mm jack, the adapter will be a short one (because there's no need for an extention, and it would mean spending more money on something unnecessary). And I don't agree with that "it will break the port" thing, you just need to be careful as usual, just as you'd be with your average audio jack. I use my phone way too much, so for three years now I've had to carry a 10000 mAh battery pack with me and use it on the go; I mean having both things in my pocket and a freaking cable flailing around. In all that time I've never had any problems with the port, just because I'm careful with it.
Second, your saying I have "zero self-respect" for that alleged cheering nonsense was completely unnecessary on top of mistaken. There would be no relation between the two, even if I were saying what you said. You should have a username pal :) that way those of us who wander regularly in the comments section would know all your brilliant ideas and opinions. But maybe you're an ignorant (who knows, maybe you don't even know how to make one) or a coward. See? Your being an ignorant or a coward for saying nonsense anonymously does make sense.

            see you around, coward

Not hot at all. No 3.5 mm jack, thin phone with camera bump and less battery capacity. Huge bezel and ugliest finger print sensor. On top they are trying to sell module because it has less battery.

they basically are selling modules to fix problems they created themselves, with your money.
                A solid not from me.
Honestly I want every phone lacking the 3.5mm jack to flop, just to smash on the company's faces that no, it's nothing new to take it out, no, USB audio is nothing new nor better at all, no, I don't wanna go back to the adapters all the time. It wasn't cool back then, it's not gonna be cool now.

i wonder who values thinness in a phone? beyond a certain level of thinness, it produces diminishing results like with less battery etc.
7-8 mm is the sweet spot in my opinion.
most manufacturers have curved edges which make the phone feel thin in hand while actual thickness at edges is less. so even 9mm thick phones are okay as long as they fit bigger battery in there

THERE. IS. NO. FREAKING. CAMERA. BUMP.

The bump disappears with the Mods, and I'm not even talking about the ones that actually do stuff. The Style mods (that you'll choose in motomaker just like you did with the Moto X, free of charge unless you want wood or something fancier) level the bump completely.

Well, with several controversial changes people were gonna kill each other in comment sections and forums, that much was obvious. But still some people here...

Listening to music over Bluetooth consumes more power than wired headphones. Come on.

They could have put a 3.5mm jack in a device this thick. They chose not to for some reason. Personally I'm OK with that.

"Carrying a usb-C adapter". COME ON. That thing is gonna live attached to your headphones cable, it's just gonna be an extension of the headphones themselves and you won't even notice it's there after five minutes. In less than a year OEMs will start selling usb-headphones (granted, another thing you would be "forced to buy" if you can't live with that terrible, terrible adapter) and third parties will start making usb-C cables for higher end headphones with detachable cables. And then that's it.

Stop complaining about the friggin battery already! Wait until they say how much it'll cost! It's going to be CHEAP, Motorola isn't Samsung Apple or HTC, their whole business model is based on leveraging the brand name while pricing products between those of traditional established brands and newer Chinese ones. A battery pack is cheap at 10000 mAh, these 2500 battery mods will be cheap and easily made by any third party. The very process of making them will be cheaper: if you've seen any replaceable battery, those have a few contacts on one of the sides. These battery mods will be exactly the same, only instead of having the contacts on the Side they'll be pogo pins. Much, much cheaper to build than battery packs (which need several USB sockets and even boards in them) and much more durable. It's like swapping the battery in/out of a galaxy s5, only it takes even less effort (just taking the back cover -in this case the mod- off).

You have a chance to CHOOSE what you want on your phone, with every possible need well covered and the alternative to expand from there. Stop being such cry babies and think of the possibilities! This one is gonna take off, unlike the G5. There'll be plenty of mods to choose from within a couple of months. Lenovo themselves, in addition to Motorola, will make some probably. Embrace change people.
