People please, this N9 proto has never been seen in black!!!
In the leaked promo from Nokia, it was silver or white.
this one is silver.
The one seen in black has another keyboard layout, another design on the fli-up screen, another design around the camera on the back.
Quite obviously those are different protos!
But sure, we will probably see this in more colors.
And when you look at closeups, you really dont think of macbook.
Im just saying we havent seen it in black!

Engineer Man, 22 Aug 2010I'm pretty sure there will not be much of a performance dro... moreWell all that is true.
But now there are a limited amout of ARM cpus out there to choose from, so it wont differ much.
And MeeGo isnt as lightweight as Symbian.
ANd MeeGo is a full blown computer OS, so a high performance CPU is more important than in other phones. When you want to run apps like GIMP, and other desktop applications, you need that extra juice out of the CPU.
For a product running only mobile applications, the story is different.
In other words, in a mobile computer with MeeGo, the OS is not the only thing to gain from CPU clocks

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2010I dont really like the design. Its basically the N8 again. ... moreNo, nokia didnt say N8 is the last symbian.
Its not even tha last symbian^3.
Its just the last in the N-series lineup!
Its still a good os, so even if it would have been the last symbian device... how bad for example would it have been to buy the last series of XP computers, back when vista came around? You would have had a good OS, with lots of software. Its not at all the same thing, but a symbian^3 is not outdated, and the N8 has up to date specs. Sure the RAM is lower, and CPU-speed, but the os is lightweight, by that configuration you will have more battery performance.

Bruce Wayne, 22 Aug 2010It does look very much inspired by the Macbook.
I feel ... moreBruce sorry to bring it up again, but where are u living ? its regarding the Iphone 4 and its signal issues. Let me show u this link:
http://www.gsmarena.com/german_stiftung_warentest_iphone_4_is_the_real_signal_loser-news-1837.php
It certainly has a problem my friend as tests show, what carrier are u using ? and u probably are living in an urban area which has signal antennas everywhere, which might not show u the real problem. Either that either ur one of the lucky ones, cause my friend got one and he told me he saw that problem at his house and at the shopping mall which are 2 areas with not perfect but good signal, and no other phones dont act like that in these areas.
Side note: I certainly don't want u to feel bad about it because u already bought it, just telling u my opinions and facts. Thanks.

Bruce Wayne, 22 Aug 2010It does look very much inspired by the Macbook.
I feel ... moreWell for me it looks like an Asus U30Jc 13 inch laptop, check it out it looks exactly the same, and people this is still in silver color, it was in black when it first leaked and nobody complained back then, just see it in black and ull change ur mind about the rip off.
To start with Apple are the ones who ripped off patents from Nokia if some people didnt know abt it.

It does look very much inspired by the Macbook.
I feel bad for Nokia to have to incorporate so many design cues from the Macbook (at least that's what it appears to be to most of our eyes, from these photos). THe black frame around the screen, the aluminum unibody-lookalike chassis, black chiclet keys and just the general outlook drop more than a few hints of the inspiration for the design.
I wish Nokia would just concentrate on what it does best instead of chasing somebody else's tail. They used to create visually arresting phones... like the Nokia 8800 and the iconic 3210 and the likes. How could we forget the banana shaped 8110. And the amazingly addictive Snake game. The fashionable 8310 with its white LED lighting. It all went downhill when they decided they wanted to sell smartphones instead of smart phones. Symbian requirements dictated the bulkiness and the OS has some serious shortcomings.
Now, Samsung and some others seems to have taken over the innovation edge and design.
Side note: I have been using an iPhone 4 for a while now. There is no such thing as dropped calls. These "grip of death" issue is blown out of proportion. I am sick of ppl coming up to me and the first thing they ask is, "Why'd you buy one? It has a signal problem". Well, all I can say is. Look who has one and who doesn't. My question is, who do you trust then?

iDude, 22 Aug 2010I agree with Anonymous. Nokia is just ripping off technolog... moreEven Iphone4 looks like Nokia N810. What you will say now? Btw N9 looks like any white color laptop, not just macpro. Its only due to its white color plus black keys combination.

iDude, 22 Aug 2010I agree with Anonymous. Nokia is just ripping off technolog... moreExcuse me, but ripping of technology ?! Nokia is one of the oldest Mobile communication companies they dont rip off technology they have their own, and this prototype looks nothing like an Iphone if ur concerned about design rip off :S .. maybe a macbook pro, but for gods sake thats a laptop and not a mobile phone and all this blabber is because of the silver color, when it first showed up in black nobody said a word :S

iDude, 22 Aug 2010I agree with Anonymous. Nokia is just ripping off technolog... moreJust because its silver its a rip off, so just no more silver color for Nokia, there are other colors dude, didnt u see the black one in the earlier leaked pics and video, nobody complained when it was black :S .. And if ur still so worried that it is a rip off, let me remind u that this is an unannounced prototype :)

For modern CPUs there is much more in the performance game, as CPUs have different number of execution units, different cache sizes, different ways of transferring data inside the CPU, different ways of processing the instructions inside the execution units, different clock rates with the outside world

I'm pretty sure there will not be much of a performance drop between 680Mhz 1000Mhz. The most important factor is how the Operating system will take advantage of every bit of the hardware including circuitboard, chipset, cpu's processing power/abilities & how efficiently it uses the ram available lightly without using too much.
It depends on the specification of the particular CPU, don't forget the higher clock cycles instructions per second clock frequencies of the faster cpu is oly one aspect of the total operations of processes & stages which are carried out. A processor with more transistos may switch faster & also could use less power but could use more power with less transistors which may not be as economical.
You have got to consider the complete design of the processor at the architecural level. The pipeline, how many stages are required to complete an instruction. Ho much arithmetic, how many integers a CPU can count, multiply, take away. Cache matters for prefecthing data, transistor count matters for power consumption. The bus data speeds matter.
The N9 with Meego may have higher Operating specifications but as all we based OS's like Android need such power only for the overheads of being connected to the tag clouds. For being ocnnected to the internet & the power is used when the kind of bandwith that apps need to be in constant connection to, download, synch, data retrival back & forth. This is when the higher bandwith extra power of higher end components will help. Having such a phone the power will be needed for this purpose. Otherwise higher spec phones will utilize more power.
This is why I wouldn't just call a 1000Mhz CPu faster than a 683Mhz CPU. Because you don't know the technical differences between how they complete their jobs overall. Some CPU's may in fact be more comnplex, do more in less time regardless of frequencies of a gve clock cyle. The map has to be more capable of such Processors. Clock frequncies then don't mean much if any other part of the processor is not capable or as upto scratch in how logically well it does it's job.

Why does everything have to look like an apple product? If you want that buy APPLE!

I dont really like the design. Its basically the N8 again. I also hope that nokia dont delay the handset and release it when its outdated. They promised a early release for the N8 as well as an affordable price, but that turned out to be a bunch of BS.
I hate how they told everyone that the N8 will be the last to use symbian. The N8 is basically outdated before being released. Once they release it, all attention will be gone to meego and support will slowly drop for the N8. Thats what happened with the N900. People have to wait ages for updates on maemo because they are too busy with meego etc. If they carry on like this, I rather change mobile manufacturers.

Well on the topic of this Nokia N9 no specs Revealed so we dont know what Nokia have up there sleve for this phone, but from what i see' that display look like a 4inch or more with a keybord and i hope to God it is,Toshiba was to comeout with this Ko1,4.1inch dply,KBrd but i dont no what happen. I have prayed for year for this display on phone to go up in size and it did but with out keyboard. Calling browsing and texting are the 3 main thing that people using phone for these days and the manufactures are missing this fact.
